Asor1,

Thanks.

I was completely against this war from the beginning. Someone attacked us (a soveriegn nation) on 9/11 and we retaliate by attacking another soveriegn nation...that did nothing to us. Well, plenty of people I know said that we had to do something after 9/11. But, this is similar to executing an innocent man because you needed to do something. If everyone went around trying to take an eye for an eye, then the whole world would be blind.

Actually, this state and our form of justice are working. Only in our justice system does this man even get a new hearing. Heaven forbid he had been hired as a slave worker like the Sri Lankan teen in Saudi Arabia where an infant died in her care. No representation, no lawyers...guilty as accused and will be beheaded in a public square. LOL, unless the family forgives her. The death penalty is "Just," in this country (I don't care if it takes all day with the freakin' injections)and the accused alway has his/her day in court. And then some...

tbweb...People convicted of serious crimes, like murder, can be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The system has the tools to function without the death penalty. As with any system, it reflects human imperfections: prejudice; anger; desire to quickly identify and remove a perceived threat; desire to identify a target for revenge; reluctance to admit mistakes. I do think there are cases where the death penalty can be justified--specifically, in cases like Ted Bundy where you have a serial killer who demonstrates that he will kill again if given the chance. Those cases are few and far between. Considering human fallibility, I think the system should err on the side of caution. One person executed unjustly is too many.

kansas1946 and whatithink, You both make good points.
Killing another is positively a crime. But, what do we call killing thousands to avenge a man who imbarrassed GWB's father?
The US has bombed away a country's infrastructure, killed thousands and now pretends to be in Iraq to "bring peace". Nutsy time, isn't it?

Did it ever occur to them to start looking for the real cop killer?

We all know that OJ stated all along his innocence. A jury of his peers found him to be not guilty. Why hasn't any effort been made to find the real killer's. Why even OJ issued a reward, from his prison cell, to anyone who would come forward with new evidence.

This is a job for the Reverend's Al & Jesse the dynamic duo to make an appearance, none the less. That's what they get paid to do.

I am amazed at how stupid some people are they think they know more than Jefferson, Washington, Adams and the rest of those people who built America. Yes, while most wing nuts think they did they never would have stood up and fought they are weak.

This is what our founding fathers said.

It is better for 100 guilty men to go free then 1 innocent man to face the galows. Most of you fools have perverted that so I give you credit for being so smart and hope that shoe is never on the other foot.

By the way I do beleive in the capital punishment. But I can pull the switch can you if not then you don't beleive you are cowards that just like to shoot off your mouth about things you know nothing about.

Let us keep our nation on the cave-age justice system. And for the fundamentalist christians of the right, go and read about the punishment that God thought right for the first murderer according to the Bible. Hypocrites!!

The problem with your position is the System can't win! The System is dammed if does and dammed if it doesn't! When people who kill are spared and allowed to live, they become eligible for Parole and when they hit the streets and kill again, its people like you who will cry; why didn't the System do something! The System can't win can it?
