tbweb...People convicted of serious crimes, like murder, can be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The system has the tools to function without the death penalty.

I agree with you, I support life in Prison without Parole with the exception of Cop Killers, anyone who kills a Law Enforcement Officer should be put to Death with no exceptions! This way criminals will think long and hard before killing Police Officers. It has to be that way when it comes to crime fighters. The message has to be sent that if you kill a cop you're done, your life is over, that's it and it should not matter if the Officer is from a tiny town or a big city.

Crystalblue3,

If we had spent more time turning everything into Iraq before we invaded, we probably would not have invaded. I think we brought the topic of Iraq into the context of this story...if you look at what was said. It wasn't anything just random about Iraq. But, there are some parallels between the two. Murder is wrong unless it is sanctioned by the state or federal government.

sjw1253,

Well, for the criminal, because Jesus said so:

Luke 23:42 He said to Jesus, %u201CLord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.%u201D 43 Jesus said to him, %u201CAssuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.%u201D

For the ones that executed him...because they did not believe.

Believe me, I don't forget about how many innocent people have died in Iraq...or in any country during ANY war.

All I'm saying is that it gets old when every single story turns into an Iraqi war arguement. No one is trying to take away your democracy...give me a break.

One of the earliest posts - (whatithink at 07:02 PM : Jul 16, 2007)

"Funny that one of the criminals besides Jesus ended up in heaven, while the people who legally killed Jesus did not."

I am curious... how does one really know who went to heaven?

crystalblue3, I thought the topic was 'death'. How can we not think of those we've killed in another country. For one single minute, do NOT permit yourself to forget, please.

Crystalblue3,

Because this is a DEMOCRACY and if we are trying to send a DEMOCRACY to Iraq, we should not be trying to take it away here.

If you don't like talking about Iraq. Don't.

But, we have a right to talk about Iraq here if we want to.

WHY does EVERY SINGLE story have to turn into a pro/con argument about the war in Iraq??

Why can't you people stay on topic? There are plenty of articles/stories here on CBS where you can voice your opinions about that subject.

Blackbug99,

Our system is FAR FROM perfect. To compare it to an even worse system is the wrong measure. We should be comparing ourselves to an ideal. Only through striving to be better, does one ever get better.
