- Jimibear,
If anything it's embarrassing. I don't think that it makes blacks look bad. In fact, the entire fiasco is embarrassing. Giving a word so much power. I'm done debating with you. Let's just agree to disagree because we will spend the rest of the day retyping the same point of view over and over. Pointless. - Reply to this comment
- ""Such idiotic displays and mis-use of the language by prominent black people make ALL BLACK PEOPLE LOOK STUPID BY ASSOCIATION"
Yes! Exactly! Did I say those displays meant the black people were stupid? No! I said when their leaders act stupidly, it makes them LOOK stupid.
Not all Americans are stupid, but our president is, and it makes all of us LOOK bad.
Looks and reality are not the same thing, but it is the responsibility of community/elected leaders to behave in a way that doesn't make those they represent look stupid for having them as representatives. Try to follow along, will you? It's pretty simple.
"Furthermore, do you not find it interesting that, that particular statement was the one that is in bold print. I am inclined to believe that he didn't slaughter his entire speach."
I am inclined to agree. I have noticed a number of such selective presentations by CBS news. It's part of a very disturbing (and long-standing) media technique to sow dissension and generate controversy.
"You really shouldn't let people get you so upset. Your are really flustered and should get a cold drink. Relax and come back when you are not so heated. It isn't a good look on you."
You're probably right. I am having a supremely *** day today. - Reply to this comment
- Does this mean that black people are not allowed to use the N word no more, they are the only people I ever hear saying it?
- Reply to this comment
- It's not that white people want to use that word, some are just tired of black people yelling racism every chance they get, but black people at the same time can us the N word or whatever word they want and it's ok. We all just need to remember the golden rule. I love all people and I was brought up that way. The only time I get mad is when black people blame me for something I had nothing to do with. There are slaves today in this world of all colors and creed. They are being abused and killed every day. Focus on that more and see what we can get done there and let the past go. White people have apologized over and over and black people still won't let it go. It is time. Stop bringing it up. Remember, as Madea said, "Honey, it's not what people call you, it's what you answer to."

- This is a good start...to bury the N word. Our society needs to return to a higher protocol of civil restraint in public speaking, especially in the media and any other public venues.
Lets not accept irreverent, derogatory or blasphemous speech in our culture. We all are responisible for having allowed our culture to descend into a pit of foul language. We can also take the lead of expecting the highest standards in public expression. - Reply to this comment
- seaslew,
You are right - some just "dont" get it. You and DMK3 are good examples.
When black leaders act like dummies, it makes black people look bad. When George Bush acts like a dummy (that is, when he is breathing) it makes all Americans of all races look bad, although probably blacks less than most, as very few were dumb enough to vote for him.
That's why people are called "leaders" or "representatives"; people look to them to speak for those they represent. When they look like idiots, it reflects badly on the people they supposedly represent.
I'm sorry you just "dont" get that. It's a fairly simple concept. - Reply to this comment
- Jimibear,
"Such idiotic displays and mis-use of the language by prominent black people make ALL BLACK PEOPLE LOOK STUPID BY ASSOCIATION" Your words...not mine. No, I'm not 3, but feel like I am communicating with one. And now you are the ruler of technique. You voice your opinions, and I express mine. I can read and am not cognitively challenged. I believe that the improper use of the english language made HIM look stupid. Period. Furthermore, do you not find it interesting that, that particular statement was the one that is in bold print. I am inclined to believe that he didn't slaughter his entire speach.

- bob757200,
Where do you get that rappers basketball players and felons were the only people black people idolize?
It would be just as correct to assume that all white males idolize Kurt Cobain and Major League Baseball players, and people who make Crystal Meth. Statistically speaking, caucasian people make up the majority of people on welfare, at least they do in California so is it safe to assume that white people in general aspire to nothing? When you paint with that broad a brush you only make yourself look like an idiot. - Reply to this comment
- How bout they bury the words:
- - "I do" ? - Reply to this comment
- As a black man living in this country, I feel that this is a big waist of time. The (N) word is just that, a word. It seems that whites are more offended than Black people are, I wonder, why is that? could it be guilt? let face facts Black people didn't create this word, whites did. Blacks didn't use that word to degrade and dehumanize another human being, whites did. Now white get mad because we tooks control of this word and use it for our own means. And for all of those white that scream "Double Standard" ( What a Joke ) I have one question? why would you want to say this word anyway?

- Hedonist3,
There are few words in the English language that have caused so much pain, just by saying them. There's no equivilent WASP term for it.
That being said, whether it can be truly "dead" remains to be seen. I don't see a great rush to get rid of it in pop culture (Comedy and rap) where it's used more readily - Reply to this comment

You seem to think that that I am saying that because these people did something stupid, and the mayor of Detroit can't use proper grammar, it means I thnk that black people as a whole are stupid and/or poorly educated. This tends to make me doubt your ability to read for comprehension, as I am actually saying that this sort of thing will tend to spread that impression, which is why it is bad, and actually a disservice to the black community. I'm not saying these people actually represent what black people are like.I am saying they both present themselves as representative of the black community and are accepted as such, so that when they act like idiots, it tends to make black people as a whole look bad. If I were the racist you mistake me for, I wouldn't have a problem with that. As a non-racist, it bugs me when black leaders make themselves and, by extension, other black people, look like childish fools.
And yes, when George Bush opens his mouth, it's the same sort of thing, only worse. Almost everything he says is stupid, and as our (supposedly) elected leader, he does indeed make all other Americans (of any color)look bad for allowing such a buffoon to be the primary mouthpiece for our country. Ask any non-American (or indeed any thinking person) what they think of the intelligence of a people who are led by a moron. - Reply to this comment
- "Jimibear,
Yelling Shut up, shows my disgust with you and the remarks that you often make towards other races. Doesn't make me look stupid at all. I'm sure I probably beat someone else to it."
The "remarks I often make toward other races"? And what would those be? this is a typical b-s statement; tell me where else I have said anything negative. I don't say anything against other races; I say things against stupid behavior. Furthermore, how do you know I'm not black?
And no, yelling shut up demonstrates nothing but your own inability to debate the point. It's not a valid technique; it just shows you have nothing to say in response. It's approximately worthy of a 3 year old. Are you 3?
"Yes, blacks from all over the country were there. Not all of the black people in the country."
They were members of the NAACP. They are considered delegates/representatives of the black community, both by themselves and others. Therefore, their actions reflect on the black community as a whole. You can refuse to accept that all you want; I didn't say that they were expressing the actual attitudes of all black people; I said they were making them LOOK stupid by association, because these are black leaders, acting in their capacity as representatives of their people, doing a stupid thing. That's the way it works. - Reply to this comment

- OMG, what is next, is Honkey gonna be buryied? The N word is just that, a word, the only people I ever hear using it is colored people anyways. If a word needs to be buryied, bury the likes of GD and stuff like that. I have been called many names in my life and none of them have hurt me. I can not believe this is even a issue, when will people grow up and stop acting like small children?

- It's the old blame game. Who are the role models for blacks? Rap artists, basketball players, prisoner friends? It's all about the bling and how cool you are because of what you have to show everyone and they don't care how they get it, steal, kill, sell drugs... What ever happened to EDUCATION, family values, learning, making a future for yourself because you want to do well and yourself and also make your parents happy? As with all communities in the US, blaming someone else except the PARENTS is common place. When a student doesn't do well in school, who's fault is it? The Teacher! WRONG, it's the lazy parents (white, black, asian, mexican, they are all the same) for not making their child study so they will be worth something and be somebody in the world. Educated kids don't use the N word and H word, don't listen to Rap and look up to black people that make a difference in the world.
Blacks make up 14% of the population in the US yet count for 40% of the US prison population. What does that tell us? Nothing is going to change anytime soon. Burying the N word is going to solve NOTHING! It is going to continue to be used by the black community and white people will be beat up and killed for using it. - Reply to this comment
