How awful, I'm wondering why a wading pool would have to have that amount of suction when it is usually smaller thus requiring less recirculation. This could have pulled a child under and drowned them if it had that much force to it. The pool I oversee DRAINS the water out from the skimmer on the wading pool and sends back to the main filter and treatment which goes out to main pool.
Many safety laws passed on pools only affect new construction. We were "grandfathered" in when the laws dictated that wading pools have to have it's own seperate pumps and stuff. It appears Having it's own system has it's own drawbacks as well. I'm glad we do not have this 'safety' feature.

How awful. I feel so bad for the girl having to have a port the rest of her life over something that could have been prevented. I don't believe in suing, but if the parents decide to, I don't blame them one bit.
