"Why is it the first thing so many of you think of is to sue? "

"It is exactly this "sue them" attitude that is costing us all dearly. $3000 per year per family, actually. That is what we ALL pay extra for because of all the cost of lawsuits and product prices, simply because of our absurdly litigious culture."

Having your company's arse sued into the ground for knowingly and willfully producing DEFECTIVE products, negligence etc is the ONLY language corporate America understands, the absurdity is not that injured people sue, the absurdity is that these corporations as set up -totally shield it's CEO's and employees from personal liability, thus a CEO can ignore and shread internal documents from R&D warning about defects, continue to ship products they KNOW have killed people due to faulty or poor designs or cheap components that fail.
Maybe it's time for insurance companies to YANK their policies or triple the premiums in cases like this. If the CEO was personally liable and would lose his $15 million home, cars and everything he owns for knowingly selling defective products for profit, I guarantee things would change. As it stands now, they KNOW they are safe- their corporate papers, insurance co and lawyers will shield them 100%

Why is it the first thing so many of you think of is to sue? "Her parents should sue" blah blah blah seems to the first reaction of people when they read this. Especially Americans. Well, count me among the Americans who does not think we all have some lifelong, God-given, automatic guarantee of a 100% safe life, free from any pain or injury. The world doesn't work that way, so why should we think it does? It is exactly this "sue them" attitude that is costing us all dearly. $3000 per year per family, actually. That is what we ALL pay extra for because of all the cost of lawsuits and product prices, simply because of our absurdly litigious culture. Newsflash: Life doesn't owe you a living, and neither does your neighbor, your plumber, your pool man, your YMCA, your schools, fellow drivers, or anyone else. Just being alive is a risk. Suck it up and get used to it.

Fortunately I did not read what you all are speaking of, which in reality gives me absolutely no right to comment, however if you knew me in person, sometimes it is very difficult for me to be QUIET.

Whom, just who in their right mind could make anything vulgar or horrific style humor on this young girl? A real parasite, OK, it is off my chest now. A heart warming, and deep regret, to the parents of this child. God bless and be with you during these times. You have my deepest sympathy.

With my background knowlege on mechanics and engineering, I can testify that wire dog kennel is a LOUSY design and it's so obviously poorly designed, yet they will not recall nor change the design- it's cheaper to pay a few dozen pet owners $600 each than to retool and redesign.

Corporate America does not give a chit about people or pets, they will do anything to save a penny even if people or pets are injured or die.

You can't sue the CEO's involved personally, you can only sue the CORPORATION which shields them.

Michelle, I remember a few years ago 60 minutes (or the like) ran a piece about defective coffee makers, turned out the cause of the house fires from the coffee maker were from the manufacturer changing a resister in the electronics to an inferior component to save FIVE cents per unit.

What's more, even after a number of high profile house fires etc, the same models, with the defective resistor continued to be stocked on store shelves.

Another example of corporate greed- the maker of a popular wire dog carrier sold in places like Walmart used often to housebreak/confine puppies not only were notified of a number of gruesome dog deaths due to a poorly designed DOOR latch strangling them after they pushed it partly open and got their head caught and strangled to death- the company DENIED having EVER had any problems with this product and I know that was a lie because I knew a woman whose 6 mo old puppy died in one and after a lot of trouble they offered her a paltry $600 and to sign a paper saying she would not go public.
The woman put up a web site to expose this and others have emailed her about their dead puppies, I also emailed the company and they denied having any problem with the product!

I forgot I use my hands to see with as well. I can't see the person's gender,I go by their voice. Sometimes I GET it wrong as their name can be a male/female name. The transgenger folks have realise that we as sight impaired are not being rude. We don't know.
If we learn anything it is this girl can teach us as she must be adorable child to bear such a cross she did not have to bear. How many others. I am pissed that sighted dis not watch her as they should have.

Here is the kicker,I am totally blind in one eye-that means blackless, sightless, no light in that eye, used to but foster Mum took the light and dark from that eye Now no sight. My other eye is legally blind that means some Usable sight. It means using magnifiers to see. It means using a white cane that tells dunb drivers I am visually impaired and that the white cane law gives me the right to cross a street and drivers have abide by it. I was hit by a truck and I am healed from it. I was in the right he was wrong. The white law is on the net for all states. There is different degess of legal blindness. it means we are not fully sighted you. Ilove the bbc as they are legally blind friendly.

All I want to say is that my prayers go out to this unfortunate child and her family. I will pray to give them strength in long and arduous situation ahead of them. This is something that no 6 year old or any child should have to experience. Childhood is supposed to be the funnest time of your life. This poor child has had her world turned upside down. I can't help but feel this somehow could have been prevented.

I understand Michelle, I thought you meant "legally blind" to the extend you could not see more than light and dark, the lady I know is totally blind and uses the software.

Shame you had a bad situation as a child, mine was good, my adoptive dad took care of the family 100% we had a business, a big house and live-in housekeeper on Long Island ( Sands Point). That house is now assessed at $2 million. New cars every year, lot of toys at xmas, vacations to Florida every summer, summer camp, anything I wanted pretty much dad was there with his open wallet. Adoptive mommy-dearest was more like yours- but multiple health problems and disorders.

They were married 50 years despite the abuse she put on him. Some parents will be fine with this kid, some would high tail it with the insurance money- been done.
She has no small intestines, so I assume that means she cannot eat via mouth any more and will have to have some kind of predigested glop fed in via IV or some other means the rest of her life.

MichelleM99 - I am very sorry to hear that you had such a terrible experience - especially as a child.

Fortunately - not all parents leave their children because they are not able to take care of chronic illnesses.

I was diagnosed with a very rare disease that could have killed me within a year at the age of 19. I fortunately was old enough to be responsible for myself (although I was very young).

I have dealt with this disease for 34 years now - am still alive - but am disabled from it. I worked for nearly 30 years with the disease at a career I was proud of.

It is very difficult to be chronically ill - as I know it weighs on me - and others who have their lives to live don't want to be weighted down by others' disabilities.

It is not an easy world - but we are survivors and hopefully, so will this little girl.

I came on this site at around 10pm last night - with Jolsonbear doing his/her best to shut this comment section down.

The problem was that Jolsonbear was trying to make it look as though one person could shut the board down.

I am glad to see that my complaints to CBS along with others' must have worked.

Jolsonbear - if you want your concerns to be taken seriously - express yourself so that others may take on your cause.

As I came on at 10pm - the rude comments you alluded to were taken off. I did not read what you read - but again - that demonstrates CBS is able to assess the situation and take remedial results.

I am glad they also did this by removing your many empty posts. This definitely demonstrates they have their controls in order.

I hope people can remember that in order for a democracy to work - each voice should count as ONE...

I was born blind and with c/p. I was denied schooling until 10.I am still legally blind. What future will this girl face. Most people can't deal with a disabled child. Do you think she or I asked for it. No. It will change the family as well. Some will raise him/her. Some will walk. It is easy to say what you might do. Are we a reminer of a side of human beings that are and that one body can always be stain free.

I am sorry I am poorly schooled. i am thinking a girl who life is changed forever. Will her parents cope with it. I hope so. You try to walk the talk. Would you be yellow belled and walk. I don't know. Would you step upto the plate and be there for and her her forced special needs. If it this gets you thinking, good. People,My selfish mother WALKED. She walked out on us. Why I was blind and multi handicapped and I was 5 years old. She was so lazy to raise us so we ended up in foster homes an awful life full of abuse. Do you think she will be loved and cared for properly. Will they blow the money for the girl and throw her on the state. I am 52.

cmp271, you are right about pools being dangerous. I guess it is easy to assume that all the saftey precautions are in place and that maintinance has been kept up. It pays to be cautious---but I don't think these poor parents could have even imagined that this could occur in the "kiddie" pool. Very sad situation.

Michele; sorry to hear that. I assume then you use text to audio reader software, I am aware spammers like Poisonbear who posted invisible return and other characters can mess up the reader sofware, in the chat room I moderate we have a lady who uses this and if the text moves too fast or people get sloppy it messes her up. It's also annoying, disruptive and against the rules when multiple copies of the same post are made over and over as was done.

And now to this comment;

"There are still comments that were made early on mocking this poor childs tragedy that CBS has refused to remove. There are comments by others who are personally threatening me that CBS has refused to remove."

Apparantly our troll friend expects CBS staff to LEAP instantly at every complaint, forgetting that they run a large site and news bureau, and the work likely falls to ONE person- the webmaster who probably works ONE shift a day and is not at your beck and call 24-7. If the text stays up a few days BFD, it's not killing anyone, no bombs are set to go off at 8AM and the planet will not grind to a halt if the "offending" text is not immediately removed. You sure expect a lot out of a FREE web site!

you wouldn't remember seeing me around here since you try to "rule" every thread that you get on. You look for other users to comment on just as you are doing to me. I post on these boards so infrequently that I had to get the definition of a "troll" form you-----a troll.
