Emigrated From Cuba At Age 1, Calif. Woman Learns True Residency Status Means Her Vote Was Illegal
- nottellin1 said to "fatherwolf1", "You are correct, it says she is a resident, not am illegal...

Though the poster "fatherwolf1" and I probably share viewpoints here and there, the unnecessarily caustic response he took to nottellin1 really cost him, and contributed nothing to his point.
On the other hand, I salute nottellin1 for the good grace in which he took the flame, and the wisdom in which he stayed with the facts, rather than upbraid fatherwolf1 for what he may, or may not, be.
When debating a point, facts always make the point most eloquently. - Reply to this comment
With an estimated 12 million or more illegals in this country, and Bush (and others) unwilling to deport them for their felony offense, the Meyer case is puzzling.
Better to give Meyer the fair hearing she is entitled to have before an immigration judge. That hearing should take into account such extenuating circumstances as might apply.
And far better to redirect federal energies at locating and deporting the illegals from Mexico and points south, who know they broke the law. If the feds are so eager to be legal with Meyer, they certainly have an obligation to deport the illegals-- a glaring inconsistency damaging to what remains of INS credibility.
Interestingly enough, INS cannot act because of Bush, himself. Rather than police the border more effectively for the past six years, Bush merely turned a blind eye to the problem. And this, despite his constant whining about terror plots and infiltration from abroad. The explanation is Bush's biggest contributors, the large agri-industrial complexes, need cheap labor. So, Bush proposes making that cheap labor safe from prosecution and deportation (however they crossed the border) to please his contributors-- but not making them (voting) citizens.
Meanwhile, since the GOP fears a storm of retribution from a growing non-white demographic of the US, it concentrates on efforts to keep them from voting.- Reply to this comment

You are correct, it says she is a resident, not am illegal. She is under threat of deportation because ahe broke the law when she voted in 2004. However, I wonder why she is only in trouble for voting in 04. At 40 yo she should have voted many times and if not, why not? Something doesn't quite add up. Even so, I'd love to see more stories like this so that maybe some illegal aliens will go home. - Reply to this comment

- How did she get registered to vote without a birth certificate and social security number?
States that allow illegals and non-citizens to vote should be banned from participating in federal government. And sanctuary cities should be cutoff from all federal dollars. - Reply to this comment
"The article states that she was one year old when she came to the USA illegally. We all read that. That's not a justifiable reason to let an illegal stay in the country. She is lying about not knowing she was illegal."
Read the article again. Slowly. Or have a literate person read it to you and explain what it says.
This woman is NOT an illegal alien. Nowhere does the article say that she came here illegally. Go back and try to find where you think it says so. Look at the words before and after everywhere the word "illegal" appears.
If you still think it says that she's an illegal alien, come back here and quote the part that says so. Somebody who has at least half a brain will (try to) explain to you where you're wrong.
But somehow I get the feeling that no amount of evidence and reasoning will get this elementary point through your skull.- Reply to this comment
- States with a high percentage of illegals should not be allowed their electoral college vote unless they can prove their illegal population is not voting.

- hmmmmm... We arrest and deport the productive, educated and tax paying residents, yet the criminals sitting in jail, the young baby making mexicans, the high school dropouts, gangs and drug dealers are not?
We really have this all backwards, don't we? - Reply to this comment
- Come on, this person is an upstanding "citizen" she has done nothing wrong. Give her her citizenship!

- This is crazy, Bush and his buddies are using this whole immigration thing as a smokescreen to keep people from being angry about all the good jobs being shipped overseas to be done dirt cheap so all the profits can go to the execs of the companies. Then they blame the disappearing standard of living for the middle class on immigrants. The worse thing is that the sheeple in this country aren't questioning this *** even though it's so obvious. Now immigration officials are out of control. To allow something this extreme to happen is just insane.
