rharrin1: How can you be sure your a citizen? Somebody told you right? You can't tell me you remember being born in the US?

I thought you had to have "Intent" before comitting most crimes? I think there is a serious difference between someone intending to commit voter fraud and someone who mistakenly commits the same crime.

I'm no supporter of illegal immigration but person was here legal and just made a mistake about the status of her citizenship through no fault of her own.

In all fairness to this woman, how did her parents get her through school, without birth information? How did she get married? Did her parents come up with a birth certificate? Most of all how did she get a voter's registration card? Hmmmmmmm she doesn't seem to be the one at fault it seems the "system" dropped the ball and now this poor woman is going to pay the price.

(AP) Zoila Meyer spent her whole life believing she was an American.

Her parents brought her with them from Cuba when she was 1 year old and always told her she was a U.S. citizen. She even won election to the City Council of Adelanto, a town of about 23,000 in Southern California's high desert.

When you obtain a social security card. Don't you have to produce birth certificate and or proof?

Ignorance is not a excuse, sounds like Paris Hilton saying she didn't know she wasn't supposed to drive.

"How can they just pluck me out of my family, my kids?" . . . . If they can do this to me, they can do it to anybody," she said.""

Apparently Zoila Meyer hasn't been keeping up with current events.
Send her back to Mexico. Oh, she's not from Mexico.?
Cuba? - to Guantanamo with her!
This is turning out to be a great country.

The moral of this story is that you should make sure your house is in order if you want to be in the public eye, someone will be looking for some dirt from your past to prevent you from serving the community.
Soon, We will have records from birth to family history at our finger-tips, we will need to know who we hire, admit into our community, and associate with.
Welcome to the Future.

"How's come you folks never talk about hunting down the European illegal aliens in this country? There's millions of them too, but that seems to be OK.

Actually, the first illegal immigrants were most likely Europeans, dating back in 1600. I didn't have a chance to check the native americans' immigration bill of the time. Does anybody around have it in a written form ? If they are going back 40 years in the past to arrest this lady because somebody didn't like to see her elected, why to stop there ?

Why was Mrs. Meyer arrested only now? From the article, it appears that someone ratted on her after she was elected to the City Council. Politics?

As for common sense prevailing in her case, zinnanti says that the law is clear and that she'll probably be deported unless some extraordinary action is taken. And not even to her country of birth.

Law or justice. Take your pick.

I hope that at least some of the MSM stay on this story so we can learn how it comes out.

(BTW, don't assume anything about my opinions.)

alphaa10,

How's come you folks never talk about hunting down the European illegal aliens in this country? There's millions of them too, but that seems to be OK.

If you want to target Hispanics only you can start the deportation with the cheif law enforcement officer in the land who has as much trouble remembering if his parents were illegal as he does remembering his role inthe attorney firings.

Well, aren't we sensitive.

I'd rather hear from drivelphobe, Misspp et al who flew off the handle, wild accusations against this woman and ranting genrally about illegals in this country without getting even the most basic fact right.

Not that I expect them to admit how foolish they look.
