I never saw my birth cert. until I was grown. I didn't even know my parents names. I was raised in foster homes years ago. Yes I was born here. The only americans are the indidans which white folks tried to kill off. Therefore we are not them. Our fare bearers came from other nations. So by right this nation should belong to the first true Americans, the Indidans.

Oh wait, I forgot the most important reason, at least to me, that I know I am a US citizen, it is because I am a Mayflower decendent. Beforem you ask, yes I did reasearch it and yes it has been substantiated by Historical Societies.

In case anyone wants to ask me this question. I have a certified birth cert that shows exactly where I was born. My US passport confirms it.

===========================================

Don't be so sure that common sense and decency will prevail. We're in a post-9/11 world where no xenophobic paranoid injustice is too ridiculous not to happen.

Remember that when Mrs. Meyer's parents left Castro's Cuba in the 1960's, the American populace wasn't terrified of foreigners, and in fact welcomed immigrants from Communist countries. It was before the days of the authorities going around checking everybody's papers, looking for enemies and lawbreakers. Small wonder that her parents would believe what somehow their little toddler was a citizen.

But no more. The government is moving towards checking everybody's legal status and deporting anybody they can.

For every Zoila there's a half million blatant lawbreaking illegal immigrants who have knowingly defrauded the govt. of USA. What is it half the prison population of Ca. is illegal. This blatant fraud is costing taxpayers a fortune. Let's keep the eye on the ball. You all know good and well if this was an American citizen in any country we'd be deproted so fast it'd make your head spin.

Just imagine how it would feel to suddenly find out you are not a U.S. citizen after thinking so your entire life?

She should NOT be deported.

We'd be better off deporting our dictator.

Come to think of it I got my Soc. Sec. Card as a grad student on an F-1 visa. All I had to show was passport and visa, so I think it's probably easier to get a card than you all believe

I can't believe you people - talk about xenophobes. Read the story. Came here 1 year old. Parents said she was a citizen. Probably married a citizen. I was recently renewing my Green Card - BTW it doesn't take ages to do it any more and it costs less than a Passport! - a lady came in - she came over from the UK when she was a child, had been married to a US citizen for 30 + years and thought that made her a citizen - until she tried to get a US passport. Then she found out that she was not a citizen, had to replace her GC and get a British passport even though she hadn't been ther in 50 years! I guess if she'd voted she'd be deported to. Considering the whole bunch of you came from somewhere else at some point (unless you're Native American of course) get a grip and have some sympathy - Jeez!!!!!
