Connecticut Police Officer Critically Wounds Daughter After Mistaking Her For An Intruder
- Guns are designed to kill. They don't have a *** that can be turned to "incapacitate" rather than kill. Is lethal force justified for protecting one's dwelling?

When one's dwelling has or is supposed to have one's family in it, yes lethal force is justified! This officer did nothing wrong. The 18 yo was an idiot for sneaking out, no ifs, ands, or buts! She had to know there was security sensors around the house. Her dad is most likely hurtng enough because he hurt his daughter, he doesn't need a bunch of brats and creeps blaming him when he is in the right! - Reply to this comment
- We know the shooter was good and moral because of his occupation. You see, cop's guns are good, other guns are bad. Or so the media would have us swallow. Any other person would be in jail, accident or not. Except maybe in Texas.
The gun control people, I'm sure, are even more blind to police violence. The gun control we need isn't magical never-responsible cops and unarmed citizens, but getting clue about not shooting just because you can. Shoot only when you have to. There's good gun control. - Reply to this comment

- i knew an old lady once who slept with guns, afraid to leave the house and afraid to stay in it and sent her social security to televangelists out to save people just like her ... her son-in-law was a world war ii hero ... it's a 'fatal' flaw i think: wars won with enough evidence to do battle, but not enough evidence not to do battle

- This is the reason why everyone in America should not be able to own a gun. I realize that this was a cop but if this had of been someone else the girl would have been dead for sure. Most people are not used to handling a gun. They are nervouse and become trigger happy.
A burglar, at least where I live, usually does not break in when someone is home. They are usually going to steal something. They are not there to kill you. If they realize someone is there they usually run but if you have a gun and are threatening them they could very well take it away from you and use it on you.
The problem is when you can't see who your shooting at you are taking a big chance. If you have other people living with you, you shouldn't be just shooting if you can't see because there is no way of knowing for sure who it is. It kills me that there are so many parents out there that live in denial about their kids. They all think: "Oh my kid would never sneak out" or "My kid won't have ***". Wake up, if you think they aren't, they probably are. - Reply to this comment
- Another GUN NUT increasing gun violence!
At least the GUN NUT did the right thing and kept the gun violence in the family. LOL - Reply to this comment
- Shouldn all memebers of the family be made ware of intrusion devices that are nstalled in your home to prevent a stupid mistake such as this.
She's 18, why sneek out; just use the front door....... - Reply to this comment
- I don't agree that the cop did nothing wrong! He may have had a legal right to shoot at a suposed intruder, but that dosn't mean he did the right thing. Some kind of shouted warning, "who's there", or "I've got a gun..don't move". Shoot first , ask questions later is a good sounding slogan, but inocent people get hurt that way. There was a case in Louisiana some years back where a Japanese exchange student went to the wrong house for a halloween party and was shot dead by the home owner!

- Since policemen deal with scum bags every day, they never know when one of these c.r.e.e.p.s may want to take revenge upon them. You gotta tread lightly when you're around cops--at home, in the street or on the job! Everyone knows that the officer is innocent and I hope he isn't charged with any crime in this case.

- "This cop should be relieved of duty. Did he identify himself before shooting his daughter or is he just taking pot shots in the dark?"
In response to your statement, why should anybody have to identify themselves in their own home. Cop or not. - Reply to this comment
- The eighteen year old brat shouldn't have been sneaking out at night to meet with some taciturn, illiterate piece of excrement! It's ALL HIS FAULT!

- vinepetal904 - What are you on?
"This cop should be relieved of duty..." - No one should have to identify themselves to a suspected intruder in the basement of their own home. If it were an intruder, the sound of his voice would have just given them something to aim at. - Reply to this comment
- What makes him such a stupid cop? It was obivously dark and he didn't know she wasn't home. It states he didn't expect her to be in the basement or outside, it was an honest mistake. Why would anyone identify themselves in their own home? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If someone were walking around in MY home and I had a choice to shoot or yell out that I'm there, I would shoot. Why give an intruderer the opportunity?

- mbcsmith - he was in is own home protecting his family and home from a suspected intruder - he doesn't 'owe' any intruder a warning.
I believe we need good strong gun ownership laws - but this cop did nothing wrong - it's a terrible accident - but if anyone is to be blamed its the irresponsible 18 year old sneaking in and out of house. No way did she not know how her father felt about intruders. - Reply to this comment
- If the daughter had in fact been an intruder and the homeowner used his gun to stop the intruder, most likely it would not even be in the news.
It seems that only when there is a horrible accident and a strong possibility for some people to want to blame the gun is it considered newsworthy. - Reply to this comment
