there is a lesson to be learnt , hope people do !
both young and old !
I don't have a yard its to small to deal with , so I covered it with old carpet !
who started the use of "grass" to cover our "yard" ? briggs & stratton ?
Idea , use a goat or two , keeps the "grass" short and will keep people out of your "yard" !

All these problems we have today are due to OVERPOPULATION.

Are you willing to be the first volunteer to off himself, to decrease the surplus population?

There's a great scene in the movie: 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off', in which the teenager Ferris runs across several lawns to beat his sister, who is driving, home, cuz she wants to catch him playing hooky from school. Its a nail-biter because we know he's doing something wrong, but by that point we see that he's been breaking societal norms all day to help his friend grow the independence to confront his domineering father. The lesson comes home:

Kids are precious... lawns are not...

Our laws reflect that notion.

superchez1, you said "One killer, one obnoxious kid. Two less jer#offs in the world, move on."

There is apparenty one more jer##off who was not eliminated, You!!!! You must be a jer##off with your sick attitude!

The kid was being a typical kid.. he didn't deserve to be shot. Of all the bad things kids can get into these days, certainly walking on someone's lawn is pretty mild! It certanly didn't warrent getting shot, let alone killed!

I hate to have to pay taxes to educate all these brats that are born into an already overpopulated world.

Leave the country then ZUSER. Just because you chose not to have kids (thank god) doesn't mean others can't and shouldn't. I hate to pay taxes to keep this old man in jail for the rest of his life, give him the death penalty by firing squard tomorrow to make it cheaper.

zuser- Do you have kids? Are you married? If not, keep in mind what you said about an overpopulation in America when & if you want to start a family. We are overpopulated mainly due to 20 million+ illegals breeding uncontrollably to attempt to lay a foundation on our soil.

He should have gotten less. Let him out.

I agree with you ANND2302.

The man worked hard for his property and his rights and some kids choice to antagonize him was wrong.

I see parent who always think their kid and their kids education is more important than anything I do , work for, dream for, etc.... I disagree. I did not have kids by choice and I considermy dog just as important as anyone's kid.

I hate to have to pay taxes to educate all these brats that are born into an already overpopulated world.

All these problems we have today are due to OVERPOPULATION.

The penalty for trespassing is not death. The old nut case should have contacted the police and filmed the kid on his property. You are not even allowed to kill to stop a burglar unless your life is in danger. Killing over property is illegal and you go to prison, ask the old guy about it. You will bury your child over a case of mistaken identity or intent under the kind of system this old looney and some of you support. GET REAL.

Let's think about this logically for a moment. Too many people on this message board are justifying a man killing a 15 year old boy for walking across his lawn. This boy did not pose any threat, physical or otherwise to this man, which easily rules out any justification for murder. He could have easily put up a fence or called the police to handle this matter. Teenage boys aren't exactly the epitome of good listeners, nor are they especially known for following rules. For someone to take his life when it had barely begun over walking across a lawn is nuts. Shame on those who feel otherwise.

Just goes to show that there are times when cruel an unusual punishment should be allowed. If there's someone out there that doesn't think this crazy *** didn't deserve more punishment they need their own ***** kicked.

I read a few people defended the old man action... Please put yourself in this kid's parents shoe, and think how would you feel if someone murder your kid?

"A few people", give me a break dim-whit, more than a "FEW".

The old man has my vote. The kid knew better, Thet is what is terribly wrong with our society today, no one will stand up for their rights. The ole man has a right for a well kept lawn, the kid should of walked around, he would be able to walk today if he had.

When did "life" become 18 years? I guess this is why it's called the "Criminal Justice System."

So much for victims' rights ...

Ha ! Not hardly.

Your kids or any kids don't mean s**t to me. My dog is as important to me as your kids are to you and so is my lawn, my property and what I have worked for all my life.

The kid crossed the line....

I am with the old man on this one. Kid should not have trespassed especially after he was told.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people can pass judgement on something or someone with so little data/evidence.

This article is about a murder trial, conviction, and sentencing, yet it is smaller than many of my posts on this CBS site.

This man is 67 years old and there is no mention of any previous criminal record. No mention of previous problems between the parties.

It seems illogical to me that a person could live this long without a recorded criminal, or at least aggressive past, if he could do kill this 15 year old child with no more provocation then mentioned in the article.

There is no mention of any record of past problems for the boy either.

My point is that there is not enough information here to pass judgment. We don%u2019t know what the Jury heard.

As far as the man %u201Cwaiting for three hours with a loaded gun%u201D, according to this article, that was a claim by prosecutors not a proven or admitted fact.

If the kid had ADD that would have been in the title of the article.........
A paintball gun or a BB gun would have done the trick. (or a nice pitbull)(if he could handle a dog on his lawn for awhile)
I am assuming that this kid did this repeatedly for awhile. If this was a one day occurance then the guy is completely insance and would have gotten the max sentence or go off on insanity.

"I had a little neighborhood brat (aka teenager) that always tearing up my fence. But I didn't shoot the kid. Instead, I just put poison ivy all over my fence. Problem solved

Poison ivy! Great idea! Thanks, for your post. Now, I have to plant some to deal with with two brats (aka teenage girls) damaged my fence.

To pudd54: Where in any article did it state the boy saw the old man holding a gun? The man was sitting in his living room waiting for the boy to return. Your smartass darwinism remark goes quite well with you desinsitized state of mind when it comes to murder. That's hell of an attitude for someone who claims to be in law enforcement.
