Comments on: Poll: 26% Of Young U.S. Muslims OK Bombs
But Poll Also Shows Majority Of Muslims In U.S. Fit Comfortably, Reject Rise Of Extremism
- incog-nito,
And where in the article does it state the actual number of Muslims in the U.S.? The poll contacted 50,000 people to find 1,050 Muslims.
Take that as 1/50th of the available data.
If we assume the population is 275 million, and the fraction remains the same across the board, we end up with 275,000 who view Al-Queada favorably. Let alone the 25% who didn't answer the question - Reply to this comment
- The need to foist your beliefs on others, thinking that's the only way to make the world a better place, is immature and backward. It's even socially prehistoric.
What this article is conveying is an evil extreme of this social defect that pre-dates religion, but uses religion to 'legitimize' evil, and its presence in our country and our world. - Reply to this comment
- grazinggoat,
Then, why are radical Islamist not hunted done and arrested by non-radical Islamists?
Where is the total rejection of their agenda?
Why, if all you claim happened when Mohammad came into history, why didn't Muslims retain their knowledge and become the leading religion, rather than a religion that breeds suicide bombers?
And, by the way, the Koran states that suicide is a great sin. By definition. a martyr is someone who forgoes entry into Heaven for the greater good. So, all martyrs are burning in hell. - Reply to this comment

Only 50? I think you might need a course in remedial math. A survey uses a small sample of a population to draw conclusions about the whole population. What do you think the number would be if they interview 10,000? 100,000? - Reply to this comment
SlipSter01,
I didn't see the 1,050 number until I re-read the article; naturally, it was at the end. Thanks.- Reply to this comment
- "ONLY 5% of U.S. Muslims expressed favorable views of the terrorist group al-Qaeda, though about a fourth did not express an opinion."
ONLY 5%, that comes to about 125,000 U.S. Muslims, and that not saying anything about the fourth who did not express an opinion.

Actually, they only interviewed 1,050 Muslims., so 5% is about 50 in this case.
It also found "Muslim Americans reject Islamic extremism by larger margins than do Muslim minorities in Western European countries. "
Also noteworthy. The percent of respondents to the survey who are low-income (compared to the general public), compared to Muslims in other countries.
Spain, 23%
Germany, 18%
France, 18%
England, 22%
U.S., 2% - Reply to this comment

I say give them a one way ticket to wherever they want to go and tell them to leave the country; we are at war with al-Qaeda. - Reply to this comment
- I hate to disappoint you, but atheists have much better things to do with their time than waste it on god. Religious people on the other hand, can't seem to pass on any opportunity, even the most inappropriate, to proselytize (see singingrick)

LOL! Amen! I also love it when religious types try to pigeon hole atheists into one form of religion or another. Their minds can't grasp the concept of not believing in something that they figure all atheists actually do believe in something, so they're always trying to figure out what it is we supposedly believe in and trying to get us to believe in what they believe in! It's fun to watch them chase their tails this way! LOL - Reply to this comment
- sys2502..let me guess..you would NOT TOLERATE those intolerant religions..and if you had your way you would eradicate those 'christians' and ban them all to a small island..does that tactic remind you of something?

Dude you are overwhelming me with your christian love! How funny... Who's been rabid now?
You posted a message where you attacked atheists like me, by saying we choose to be atheists for our own twisted agendas. Not only it was offensive to me, but it demonstrated remarkable ignorance. My reply was simply to set the record straight. If I your comment hadn't attacked me as an atheist, I wouldn't have given it the time of day. Instead of noting the corrections I made to your views, you went on a rampage of personal attacks. Frankly I don't see much difference between you and the Muslims in the article. - Reply to this comment

- I may "bust some chops" here (verbally) but it is for the sake of instruction, not hurt. I agree with the elements that lament that 'Organized religion' has caused Great harm throughout the world. The reason this is true is, Man has put his mark on the word of God for many centuries in a misguided attempt by some to Make the word of God understandable by all. Still others have corrupted it to push their own 'adgendas'. God gave man 'Ten Commands' Man has added hundreds even thousands, he has added books and taken books away from the 'Words of God'. In spite of mans intervention Gods word keeps getting through to those that want it. A quiet time between you and God in heartfelt prayer sometime brings amazing answers and Gods word comes as "A still small voice". Sometimes if you listen in the right way you might just hear it. Don't listen to men to hear from God, go to the source. Thats what Jesus is all about.

If what you're saying is that our democracy has allowed many people (non-american born) to come over and work their brains over and over in order to discover higher and more effective weapons, more effective tools to work, in order to be better performant and having more time to enjoy, and at the same time to be more powerful than other nations, then I'd agree with you. That is what happened when Mohammad came into history. - Reply to this comment
- ...COntinued
-He kinda liberated the then people from slavery, the same way Jesus did for the Jews from the Roman Empire Establishment that was sucking their blood, the least we can say. He improved the then existing social system, set up a new economical system that allowed the people to relax a bit by benefiting from a taxation system and develop, that lead to the opening by other nations and accepting of his system, and people knowing the then superiority of Islam came to work for the Nation, giving it an adge over the others, in term of technical, and fundemental discoveries.
-See, the economical system that was designed by Karl Marx, and brilliantly implemented by the Soviets, allowed to the system (communism) to dominate for almost a century, and could at anytime, be reinstituted if capitalist system revealed not beneficial to Russians, for political reasons such as boycotting and/or economic strangulation (Cuba). Russians forgot about Christianity when they spread their empire all over Europe... - Reply to this comment
