It's frightening to see what you people think liberals believe. Let me clarify:
No it's not OK to show hetero or homos e x uals having s e x to kids.
Yes, children can, in fact, be traumatized by being shown films of ANYONE having s e x, despite the orientation of the people involved. (I teach a course on Child Abuse Assessment for a major university and this IS considered child abuse.)It is a reportable offense to the child welfare system.
No, I wouldn't want my kid to see a movie depicting adultery no matter what the s e x ual
orientation of the characters.
And Yes, it really is OK to shield your kids from violent and s e x ual content in movies.
Liberals believe in being open minded and tolerant. We're not stupid.

I don't see the school district standing behind the teacher - where do those comments come from?

But the grandpa - I wonder what works of classical literature he's complaining about - Old Yeller? He just sounds like a bitter old man, who wants a religious school education in public school.

Wacko liberals will defend showing a movie (about a couple of ****'s) to a group of 12 year-olds, under the excuse of "academic freedom".

But if the movie had been about Jesus Christ, howls of protest and censorship would be heard from the very same Wacko left-wingers.

Ok..teacher is wrong and should be fired. As far as mental anguish to the tune of $500,000...give me a freakin' break! And please...saying you gave the district a "warning" by telling them about a book that had some curses on it does NOT justify $500,000 worth. The teacher's job...yes that's justified. Kids watch stuff on TV all the time that they shouldn't (to say nothing about video games). Once that kid leaves their parents/grandparents home and goes to someone else's house they surrender their control to the other parent's censoring (which may not be much). BOTTOM LINE- If this was any other movie that had a HETEROsexual couple doing it, this wouldn't be nearly the issue, would it? It all goes back to bigotry-plain and simple.

Sounds like this grandfather is bucking for a job on the thought police...as well as cashing in.

Brokeback Mountain probably wasn't the most appropriate film to show to a class of 8th graders, but if this girl was 'traumatized' by it, then she has much bigger problems...problems that won't be resolved by cash from a lawsuit.
