Comments on: Vegan Couple Gets Life For Child's Death
Malnourished 6-Week-Old Died After Eating Diet Of Soy Milk And Apple Juice
- Life is too harsh a sentence for some one that is only a treat to their children.
They have their own private Hell to live with the rest of their lives why should we pick up the bill for thier room and board for the rest of their lives if they are no theart to us.
A couple of years in the genral prison population will teach them the error in their ways. Convicts don't think much of baby killers or vegens either one. If they live over that they won't do it again.

- How could any "natural" parenting style not include breastfeeding? Did the mother feel like she could not let her child drink an "animal" product even if SHE was the consenting animal? Every person who has spent any time researching diet & nutrition, as a vegan should have to do, would know that babies need plenty of fat in their diets for the first 24 months, and that they cannot digest apple juice or even milk that isn't formula or mother's milk. This makes me so sad. Even if this mother had a reason not to breastfeed, soy-based baby forumla is widely available.

- Mo_Tiger,
I agree that the Partial Birth Abortion Comment seems out of line with this article but to answer your question "How many babies are born alive during an abortion", Partial Birth Abortion is when the mother is in labor, the infant legs (and usually arms too) are outside of the womb kicking around, the murderer (oops, I mean doctor) inserts scissors into the base of the skull, inserts a tube and sucks the brains out, and the legs and arms stop moving and the baby is no more. This is a horrible thing to do because the infant could survive outside the womb if the doctor didn't do what he did, and if the mother didn't let it happen. - Reply to this comment
- This all happened 3 years ago, why is it considered "news"??? Posted by ralan40
It is considered news because they were finally convicted like they should be.
No excuse, even for first-time parents. These people are 27- and 31-years-old,...They aren't 14...They should've also questioned why their 6-week-old only weighed 3 pounds, and gotten medical care. While they're in jail, they should only be fed soy milk and apple juice.

I agree with Peach652, Soy Milk and Apple Juice for their jail term. I bet they will be so hungry when they get out that they will not be vegans anymore.
Ignorance is still no excuse. The only leniency I would approve is an option for early parole if they undergo permanent sterilization.

- How did the mother not know that breastmilk was the best nutrition for her baby? How seriously stupid.

You're refering to people who feed their kids dead animals whom lived their lives in torture & abuse before being murdered in most horrific & unsanitary ways, right?
As a vegan, I've never had to "adjust accordingly". Because I don't eat animals my diet is actually much cleaner, healthier, more balanced & much more appetising than diets consisting of grease-laden, artery clogging, low consciousness "meat & meat by-products".
Do any of you actually think about what is in that nitrate & sodium saturated "meat by-product"?! Once you know, you may want to adjust the toilet seat accordingly! - Reply to this comment

- I don't think the story was written as a slant against veganism or vegetarianism. Geesh, don't be so sensitive!
I wish they had given more details because it seems that the parents were doing what they thought was right in a very ignorant way. To be found guilty of all those things makes me wonder if perhaps there is more to the story.
Everyone should be educated about what to and what not to feed children, vegan or not. - Reply to this comment

The story probably leaves out crucial facts that led to the Murder charge but since it appears they took 6 weeks from birth to seek medical help, that alone would probably convince me to put them away.
The fact is that babies do not starve to death 'by accident'. How can they say they chose a natural diet when breastfeeding was not an option. How can breastfeeding be considered not part of the vegan lifestyle? Being a vegan requires knowlege of dietary needs, esspecially for a newborn. If you are not capible of being smart enough to figure out dietary needs and adjust accordingly, then you are probably not able to prove you are adhering to the lifestyle. Ignorence of the law is no excuse. Unintentional death is still murder, regardless just as leaving a child in a hot car in the summer is murder if they die. - Reply to this comment
