3 Investigations Launched Into Cops' Tactics At Immigration Rally
- The U.S. may need to do the unthinkable! With the bulk of the U.S. Military in Iraq, including many National Guard and a severe shortage in many Police Departments around the nation, the American public is vulnerable to attack and not well protected. With rampant crime in U.S. inner cities out of control, millions of illegals committing crime and foreign students gunning down Americans at Virginia Tech, the U.S. may just have to bite the bullet and let Americans carry weapons. I know its an ugly solution, won't be well received, but if the American public can't be protected, the U.S. has to let the American public protect itself. In some states like Kentucky Americans can already do so! There should be a training requirement first but it may need to be done!

- "Although I am waiting for the investigation to be concluded, I believe that both sides were at fault from what I have seen so far."
There were three distinct groups:
The marchers,
the police,
and the agitators
"But this need never have happened. Illegal immigrants are criminals who have broken our laws. What gives them the right to protest OUR laws? There are LEGAL ways to enter this country"
Being here gives them the right to protest. ***All of the protesters were not illegal.***
"I welcome anyone LEGAL immigrant who is willing to obey our laws. Demanding that our laws be obeyed does not make one a bigot."
I for one never said that requesting obedience makes one a bigot. I do think that saying illegals should be shot with rubber bullets, smoke/gas grenaded, beaten, and then deported makes one a bigot.

- Any human living on the planet has the right to try to become a naturalized citizen of the United States. Any person in the "Jurisdiction" of the United States is entitled to due process and equal protection of the law.
It doesn't matter if you're from Mexico, Timbuktu, or the Wild man of Borneo- due process and equal protection is guaranteed by the Constitution & Bill of Rights.

You're very welcome.

+1, For the umteenth time this is not an issue of illegal immigration. This was a peaceful *legal* protest that turned in to a ridiculous police action. Any human living on the planet has the right to try to become a naturalized citizen of the United States. Any person in the "Jurisdiction" of the United States is entitled to due process and equal protection of the law.

- There was no excuse for such actions. As a Former policeman myself To protect ones self is one thing but to react in such a way against others is quit another.
No doubt some will be fired over this one and why was the cheif not informed before such action took place in the first place. The chain of command certainly broke down and was unwarrented. We do not live in a Gestapo state or country when will we learn. - Reply to this comment
- If you are law violators how do you expect to be treated. It also America an English speaking country. I don%u2019t see anything the police did to violate these people marching. They used rubber bullets, batons and all Non lethal tools available to them to quell a mob.

- Those unskilled laborers are coming from Mexican farms that US factory farms put out of business. Posted by GeenAvenger at 01:16 PM : May 03, 2007
If that were true we wouldn't have had illegals coming over the border for the last 50 years. The diffenence in now there's no enforcement. We used to have something called the INS who would track down and deport illegals. But now the govt. has let them come in freely for CHEAP LABOR. IT's just more big business running roughshod over the American people and lawmakers turning a blind eye. We've become more corrupt than Mexico. - Reply to this comment
- If you really think about it you would come to realize that things must be pretty bad in MexicoPosted by GeenAvenger at 01:16 PM : May 03, 2007
Then why aren't the WEALTHY MEXICANS doing something about it. IT's not up to avg. Joe American taxpayer to solve MExico's problems. DEPORT - Reply to this comment

- Look what happened in Seattle during WTO when the police stood by and did nothing. A peaceful demonstration can go south fast. The police did the right thing in breaking up this group before something happened.

- Why the flood immigration? Why are people willing to pack up and leave their homes to go to another country where they are both illegal and often hated and likely do not even speak the language? If you really think about it you would come to realize that things must be pretty bad in Mexico. And you would be right to think so. But you would likely also say "it's not our fault things are bad in Mexico." But you would be wrong. It is our fault. Not the average American mind you but the fault of our corporations and our governemnt. What is wrong with Mexico is NAFTA. NAFTA is bad for American workers and for a little while (about 5 years) it was good for Mexican manufacturing but in the long run it has DESTROYED the Mexican family farm. Those unskilled laborers are coming from Mexican farms that US factory farms put out of business. Now ADM, Cargill etc are busy buying up the land all those poor Mexicans used to make their living on. Even the border factorys are closing down. Even "cheap Mexican labor" has been "outsourced" to Malyasia China and India.
You should not be mad at the workers that are only trying to feed their families. Be mad at our employers that break the law to hire these people. Be mad at the police and our government that allow it to happen. Lock up the border and allow the poor Mexicans to riot and their government will be forced to reform. Rescend NAFTA now! It's bad for America, it's bad for Mexico too. It's only good for the transnational corporate fat cats. - Reply to this comment
- I am sorry, but there is something called "due process" and under this ideology, regardless of the legality of the demonstrators, the issue is who attacked who first.
There is little that can be gained by arguing who should be demonstrating, throughout our history there have been those who have fought for something they believed in without being full citizens.
Quit trying to drag the "red herring" and divert attention from the facts regarding this situation. - Reply to this comment
- Hey! It's the LAPD. We, as a nation, wouldn't expect anything less from these so-called civilian protectors. They have the worst reputation of any police dept. on record. Shame on them!!!

- "Hey capnboost. You debunk yourself."
How do i debunk myself?
"You sound like a politician."
I guess i'll take that as a compliment, but i'm not greedy enough to be in modern politics.
"Never directly responding to anything, but quick to degrade and deflect the topic to some inane obscurity of your own making."
What exactly is inane about using the Constitution as a reference?
"This is an English speaking country regardless of how clear you attempt to make it to me."
If you visit the "CIA World Factbook" -(search google.com) and pick a country (i chose Spain) you'll find that the official language is "Castilian Spanish" when you do the same thing for the United States of America you will *not* find that English is our official language- that's because it's not. However Hawaii's official language is Hawaiian. Curious. You're not just arguing with me, you're arguing with me, the CIA and the rest of the Federal Government.
"You must be a boring individual with few friends."
Not really. You assume a lot.
"Have a great life."
You do the same.

- I have rarely felt the anger I did in watching the brutality unleashed by the LAPD (again). I thought, "this is not a civilized response." This is not an immigration issue, though it probably has a racial undercurrent. It is an issue of excessive violence by law enforcement that has no place in our society. The violence of our government at the state & federal levels must be contained if we our to live in a civilized society. I am disappointed & appalled. I urge harsh sanctions, loss of jobs, severe punishment, legal action & heavy financial penalties be imposed against the LAPD as a unit & individual officers. The incident is disgusting & deserves public outrage & accountability at all levels.

Not due to the immigrant rally, but due to the brutal police state we seem to have become. This is not an immigration issue. - "If they don't speak english, are they legal. If they are not legal, they have no right of assembly in this country."
14th Amendment to the Constitution section 1 says differently. Knowledge FTW!
"The police should be doing a documentation check prior to letting them into demonstrate. Then the crowd would have been manageable and there would not be a need for riot control."
Yeah, because Americans never riot.
"Any parent who took their child to a protest should be turned over to protective services for neglect."
Why? It was peaceful until the police advanced.
"If you invite abuse, it would be impolite not to accept it."
The *PEACEFUL* protest did not invite any violence.
"Protect the police not illegal protesters!"
Protect the peaceful protesters the police can obviously defend themselves.
