Any person in the "Jurisdiction" of the United States is entitled to due process and equal protection of the law.
What part of due process and equal protection don't you people get? What part of the protesters weren't illegal can't you comprehend? I feel like one of the only educated people here beating my head against a wall!

Amendment XIV
Section 1. %u2026nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

All of these individuals received the protection under the law to protest, hence it took place. Unfortunately, when the police were met with violence and declared the demonstration an unlawful protest, the law at that point focuses on the dispersal of the demonstration.

They became unlawful citizens as soon as they delayed their dispersal as per law enforcement orders. Due process, as it is applied in the Constitution, is referring to Habeus Corpus, or the writ not to be arrested for an unpronounced amount of time. In this instance there were no arrests, and hence due process does not apply in this situation.

While it is nice to attempt to draw relevance from the constitution, a false analogy is being propagated by applying your rhetorical interpretation of the Constitution to this situation.

Sounds to me that it was towards the blacks at the time they were freed.

It is an issue of excessive violence by law enforcement that has no place in our society.

2. What is your definition of excessive violence? There were warnings to disperse%u2026 why blame the procedure if protesters are Spanish ONLY fluent? No violence would be necessary or have erupted if demonstrators walked away with alacrity. All a demonstrator has to do is follow directions.

The violence of our government at the state & federal levels must be contained if we our to live in a civilized society.

3. Although it may be unfortunate, force is one language that transcends through cultural boundaries. Obviously telling demonstrators to disperse is not effective. Apparently showing a strong visible force, police standing shoulder to shoulder in riot gear, is not effective. Hence law enforcement is forced to speak a language that everyone understands.

Demonstrators can easily avoid being injured by following directions quickly.

All this criticism, what would have been a viable alternative?

I was born and raised in Germany and proud of the fact that I became an American Citizen in 1995. I did it the LEGAL way. I came on my own to Los Angeles in 1984 when I was 19. I went to an Attorney who I had to pay $3,000. I entered the 1st "Green-Card-Lottery" (another $1,500 for my attorney) and was really lucky to have won. My british friend got her Green Card after 8 years. There was a quota and INS pulled a certain number of people from each country. My interview was not held in L.A. but at the American Embassy in Germany as I was not supposed to be in this country. I met my husband, also German and we married in 1991. He received his Green Card finally after 14 years, 2 years ago! Always a hold-up. Even though we were married for all that time and had two kids in the meantime. There were countless visits to Downtown as early as 4 am standing in line. His fingerprints expired every year. Once every few years we had to go to the Doctor to get new RX done for the process. Our attorney of course charged as well, and we spend a good $5,000 more on my husband's case, not even counting the countless days he missed for work. We always paid our taxes, never used the system.
I work in the medical field and it bothers me to see small children translate for their parents. Learn the language if you want to stay here and better yourself. If this is your dream to have a better life, make it happen by doing it the LEGAL way. Good luck!

I have rarely felt the anger I did in watching the brutality unleashed by the LAPD (again). I thought, "this is not a civilized response." This is not an immigration issue, though it probably has a racial undercurrent. It is an issue of excessive violence by law enforcement that has no place in our society. The violence of our government at the state & federal levels must be contained if we our to live in a civilized society. I am disappointed & appalled. I urge harsh sanctions, loss of jobs, severe punishment, legal action & heavy financial penalties be imposed against the LAPD as a unit & individual officers. The incident is disgusting & deserves public outrage & accountability at all levels.

Yes, Everyone is missing the real problem here. The problem is not immigration. The problem is the Illegal Immigrants .
If we are to live in a civilized society, Laws and rules are to be obeyed to be a Civilized Society. I am disappointed & appalled at the Illegal (mostly Mexicans) for demanding to be a citizen without following the Laws of this country. Why are the illegal Mexicans the only group that has a difficult time in learning the English language, understanding the Laws of their country and the host country (America) that they want to be a citizen of? I urge harsh sanctions, loss of jobs, severe punishment, legal action & heavy financial penalties be imposed against the illegal individual offenders, or better yet, Deport them with their children.

We are a nation of Laws . . . when it serves our purpose. The spinmeisters will be on over this to explain the justification for the attack, maybe sacrifice an unpopular cop or two and in the end it will be business as usual with some slight changes. News crews will be evacuated before the "order to disperse" [forget the right to peaceful assembly] and a few convenient goons [police collaborators or undercover operatives] will initiate an "attack" against the armor shields to provide justification for "enforcing" the law.

Does human rights sound familiar and how does that play at Guantanamo?
