The team accepted the apology. The matter is closed. The firing was a separate issue. It addressed the probability of re-occurance of the offense and concluded it was high. When advertisers began to peel away, the it became clear their investments were not making the best returns this way. Broadcasters may appear larger than life and seem imune from rules, but they are not. Even the Pro-Liberty supporters got sick of hearing their own babies cry. It was just a matter of time before something like this blew up in our faces.

YOU NEED TO REHIRE IMUS AND EVERYONE INVOLVED NEEDS TO REALIZE THAT WE "ALL" AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER IN OUR LIVES SAY SOMETHING WE REGRET OR USE POOR JUDGMENT. THAT IS NO REASON TO FIRE SOMEONE. HOW ABOUT PUTTING YOUR ATTENTION TO BRINGING OUR SONS, DAUGHTERS, HUSBANDS ..... HOME FROM IRAQ. THAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE REMARK MADE BY IMUS. THE REVEREND AND THE COACH NEED TO "GET A LIFE". I CAN BET YOU THAT THEY HAVE SAID SOMETHING TO HURT SOMEONES CREDIBILITY AT ONE POINT. AS FOR THE GIRLS ON THE TEAM. GET OVER IT AND WORRY ABOUT MORE IMPORTANT THINGS. YOU KNOW IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS SAID TO THE WHITE PEOPLE, NOTHING EVER HAPPENS. BUT GOD FORBID YOU SAY ANYTHING AGAINST A BLACK PERSON AND ALL "HELL" BREAKS LOOSE. BLACK PEOPLE NEED TO REALIZE THAT PREJUDICE LIES IN EVERYONE AND EVERY COLOR. SO IF THEY ARE THINKING LIKE RACIST, THEN THEY "ARE" A RACIST. WHY DOESN'T EVERYONE JUST TRY TO WORRY ABOUT THEMSELVES AND NOT WORRY ABOUT WHAT EVERYONE ELSE THINKS. HIRE IMUS BACK........ NOTHING IS WORTH LOSING YOUR JOB. THE REVEREND NEEDS TO REALIZE THAT HE WORKS FOR GOD AND THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR ISN'T ACCEPTABLE IN GODS EYES. FIRE THE REVEREND. FIRE THE COACH. WHY IS EVERYONE MAKING SUCH A BIG DEAL? LIKE I SAID, IF THE COMMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE AGAINST WHITES, NO ONE WOULD HAVE EVER SAID A WORD.

imus is fired, as he should be.

but this morning, the rappers and the gangstas and all the rest of the smutt "artists" are reviewing their bank accounts, counting last week's receipts, drafting up their new lyrics.

and the beat goes on. cbs, abc and nbc, and the "music" companies are sleeping well. their children, including their young girls, are safe and secure and insolated from the rubbish.

It is so interesting how Hillary and Barack have jumped on the band wagon to fire Imus, especially after Hillary's husband, President Clinton, was almost impeached for lying to the nation. You didn't ever hear her ask Bill to "fall on his sword" or resign. And yet she can't get on the "Dump Imus" band wagon fast enough.

And of course we can't forget all the hateful things that the Reverend Al Sharpton has said in the past. And neither of them has done the good works in the community that Imus has. Or supported the many seemingly unpop;ular causes as has Don Imus. Have we forgotten already how it was Imus who kept the issues of the "Building 18 at Walter Reed" or "children with autism" at the forefront of our conscience?? Where was Hillary, Rev. Al, or Barrak during all of this?

This is a call to put Imus back on the air!!!!!!!! He has been publicly humiliated, fired, publicly castigated, lost influednce. Now it is time to allow the man to begin to make his living again. How much pennance must a man do? Why is it that Rush Limbaugh can daily spew his racist rant and not be called to task about it? And, by the way, I do not call for Rush's firing even though I disagree with him totally. This is the United States of America where we have a right to say unpopular things. If people don't like what Imus or Rush or Rev. Al say...... Then turn the bloody dial!!!!!!!!

Hell No! Imus should never have appologized. He said it like it is and he should have stood behind his guns.
it's OK when the blacks call us WHITEY, HONKEY etc.
When are the WHITE PEOPLE going to stand up and say enough is enough. If you balcks dont' like the way things are here, then why dont you all go back to Africa. You claim to be African (American?) so pack your bags and be on your way.
I'm personally tired of all of your wining about this or that and everything else you cry about.

Surely, all of the bigots and racists who have supported his disrespect for others can find other ways of spending their time.
Mentoring a child?
Volunteering at a senior center?
Something productive that contributes to the betterment of society.

It is obvious from your post that you don't know Don Imus, and probably never listened to him...or you would know of his great contributions to charities. He send kids with cancer, sickle cell, (isn't that a disease that attacks blacks?), and other life-threatening diseases to his ranch in New Mexico, for horseback riding and other things associated with a working ranch.
While I don't agree with his comment, I feel the reaction was over the top. My gosh, these girls he was supposed to have insulted and ruined their season, etc, didn't even know what he said for days and they have milked it for all it's worth ever since. Point is, Tennessee's Lady Vols won the National Championship, NOT Rutgers. So I ask...what about their season is ruined? It was over on Tuesday night, when they lost, until next year. So please get these girls and their coach and the coach's minister off TV and let them begin to heal...of course, if they see a camera, they will talk to it, on and on and on. As far as I'm concerned, the coach has gotten plenty of free coverage as she begins recruiting for next year. NCAA violation??

Imus is a "Shock Jock" has been for 30 years so now CBS fires him. WHy? Because Sharpten and Jackson probably agreed with him when he was degraded arabs, jews and other ethnic groups. That's why. Sharpten and Jackson are spotlight HOGS, they wnat to be noticed. They pick they battles to get in the spotlight. They are both trying to be 1970 Civil Rights leaders in 2007. They are just not what is needed. This will not end soon, it is not in the best interest of America particularly now to show how divided we are in our own Country.
Think about this: Somewhere in all the foreign countries who hate us anyway, there are leaders who are seeing how weak we really are.
I don't think Imus should have said what he said, he is not a very convincing comedian, but I can assure you that if that was A black Comedian saying the same *** thing we would NOT be where we are right now....on this message board.

Mr.Imus has been making degrading and demeaning comments for far too many years.

Finally, CBS and some of its sponsors had the cajones to do the right thing.

Surely, all of the bigots and racists who have supported his disrespect for others can find other ways of spending their time.

Mentoring a child?
Volunteering at a senior center?
Something productive that contributes to the betterment of society.

Mr. Imus's daily barrage of insults on the airwaves served only to reinforce racist beliefs and behavior.

I just wish they had fired him sooner.

Thank you CBS.

By the way, the correct spelling is hypocrisy
NOT hypocracy...

Bill Maher had an excellient opening to his show this evening. A commercial for people who are still upset about Imus's comments. A bottle of "Getoveritol"! I couldn't agree more. Imus said a dam*n stupid thing and he got fired for it. Yet we have this idiot head coach at Rutgers who says she's going to have the school psychiatrist attend a team meeting to help the players deal with (Paraphrasing) "the deep and probably permanent scars" that Imus comments inflicted on them! OH FOR GAWD'S SAKE! Talk about needing some Getoveritol! This is a tiny issue, it is not the new Rosa Parks moment! GETOVERITOL!

Sorry, last comment under my name was from my son. He is a little angry at your vulgar response to me. Just an FYI - he would love to meet you, and discuss the difference of opinions.

Everyone seems to be filled with anger and rage. It's safe to say, this is bigger than Don Imus and Oprah. Those who want racism in their lives are the ones that feed their energy to it when it arises. To look away from it is to make it die.

I think this whole debate is crazy. As a black male, I agree that we degrade our women on a daily basis and need to clean up our act before we can expect others to. I hope all of you do not think that Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton represent black america b/c they dont. Those 2 bums had their place in the 60's, but not the 90's..

Can't black people all get together and give the rest of America a single list of what offends them so we can all move on?

One day nappy hair is happy hair and the next day it's mean spirited hair that will get you fired.

One day black is beautiful and the next day it's just phissed and mad and it ain't gonna take it no more.

focusing on what's wrong will sure take your mind off of what's right. dividing your mind will waste your life. if we as individuals will look for good in others and be aware of their concerns, instead of biting and devouring one another, then we will find we will not be consumed with greed and hate. by having the love of God in our hearts there will be great benefits for all of us. and since life is not permanent it would be wise to do good while we still can.

Boy, have I done a lot of thinking lately. I don't go to church every Sunday,( in fact way too little) but I believe in the Lord. I can go into my bathroom, if that's the only place I can have privacy, get on my knees and pray. I'm sure he hears me as clearly as if I were in Church. I know in my heart he doesn't want his sheep to take his name in vain.

Al and Jesse have done just that - they lead a life that is destined for hell and state they are doing this in the name of the Lord. They use God to promote their own wealth, and fame. I would not want to be them on Judgment Day. They promote racist behavior and they themselves are the biggest biggots. They are truly evil people. They have no qualms in ripping someones life apart - business as usual for this type of person. These are not men of the cloth, they are useing their titls to become money/power makers.

I know this sounds a bit overboard - not my intention, I'm just very angry. I just want to make the statement, I don't know, "pratice what you preach"? "Yea who is without sin cast the firs stone"?

If the Rudgers Team can accept Don Imus's appolgy, then who are they not to?
