Race isn't the issue,
Posted by deeda827

yes, it is.

If Imus were a black man, this incident never would have been blinked at.

Thats what makes it racist.

PLEASE.....am I the only one that remembers that Rev. Jackson has his own skeletons in the closet. As I remember when the Rev. Jackson asked for forgiveness.....no white man wanted him fired from his job.....at least Imus was not unfaithful to his wife.....

And Rev. Sharpton.....as a man of the cloth, you should have been promoting forgiveness.....not a witch hunt.....shame on you.....you of all people should know that God is watching.....

jenpj,

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ME AND IMUS IS I DON'T SAY ANYTHING THAT I FEEL I MAY NEED TO LATER APOLOGIZE FOR. I'M ENTITLED TO MY OPINION JUST THE SAME AS YOU, ON MY OWN BEHALF, BUT HE WAS ON CBS'S.

Race isn't the issue, the issue is the press stirring the pot everytime someone says something stupid, and broadcasting it over and over, until they get everyone upset over it. They are beating a dead horse here. What's done is done. I'm not arguing that it was a stupid comment, but I don't think he deserved to be fired over it. Everyone needs to quit being so sensitive about everything. Jeez!

The constitution never guaranteed that your feelings would not get hurt.

Slavery has been gone for over a century. There are no blacks alive today that lived under those conditions.

Millions of whites died to make it happen.

Dont persecute whitey. Its a social problem in the black community. Most of this slang came from the black community, on the airways, to people who never heard this kind of stuff before.

The girls on the Rutgers BB team probably were not insulted by the racist comments from Ice Cube, even though that content promotes murder, and radical racists communications.

O%u2019Shea Jackson (a.k.a. Ice Cube). He wrote these lyrics in 1993:
%u201CBust a Glock; devils get shot. . . . when God give the word me herd like the buffalo through the neighborhood; watch me blast. . . . I%u2019m killing more crackers than Bosnia-Herzegovina, each and everyday. . . . don%u2019t bust until you see the whites of his eyes, the whites of his skin. . . . Louis Farrakhan . . . Bloods and CRIPS, and little old me, and we all getting ready for the enemy%u201D
%u201CEnemy%u201D; Ice Cube, Lethal Injection, 1993, Priority Records, Thorn EMI; now called The EMI Group, United Kingdom.

Thats racist, it promotes racial violence. Its from the black community. They claim its artistic expression.

Just like Imus.

CBS airs Ice Cubes rap every day, and pays for the right to keep doing.

Imus isnt black, so he gets fired.

Thats racist.

Proudtobeblack,

You should chill. dont you understand that actions such as these chip away at YOUR freedom of speech. It opens the door for censorship for all of us. Get a clue. Do you understand that there are many many straight haired WHITE men who died fighting to end slavery???? Yes thats right white men dying for freedom for your race. Did you know that there were also white slaves??? Yes Oh yes. Get the chip off your shoulder many of us have had injustices done to us, many of us had nothing, raised poor, no opportunities and you know what.even experienced reverse discrimination so get off it and look at where we are.. Do you want to remain in a free country? Do you not appreciate anything this country has to offer? Well if you do consider that many races and many backgrounds helped to pull it together and your statements are actually uglier than what Imus said. Should you be fired?????? Dont perpetuate the divisivness. I don't agree with what he said but I feel the suspension and apology were enough.

CBS puts far worse racist trash on the air that Imus even came close to.

Its not that calling women nappy headed ho's is a good thing, but its pretty obvious that the situation was not handled anywhere near fairly.

Ice Cube got away with it for 15 years. He's black. Imus does it once, and he is fired.

Its a civil suit. Imus can play the social experiment game just like CBS and Sharpton and Jackson.

Imus content is comedy, and as such, holds the same implication as any other comedian, the racist part is that Imus was the only whitey doing it.

Don Imus made a mistake and he apologized for it. The Rutger team and their coach have met with him and accepted the apology. He could do more by staying on the air and dealing with this matter directly than to have Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson leading the mob -- a definite lynch mob -- to get this man removed from the airwaves. Mr. Imus' humor is filled with sarcasm. And he was derogatory to EVERYBODY. His wife didn't even escape his caustic remarks. We, the people watching or listening, knew it was all done in a joking manner. Mr. Imus is a rebel, a rabble-rouser, a shock-jock, and a bunch of people who spend their lives conforming to society's norms, enjoyed watching Don thumb his nose at that society. Where are they now? Afraid to come to this man's defense? The same Mr. Jackson who called New York "Hymietown" and who avoids comment on that. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have put themselves up as judge and executioner in this one, and I don't think that is very "Reverend." Give me the guy who didn't immediately hide behind a PR agent and tried to take it like a man.

Mr.Imus has been making degrading and demeaning comments for far too many years.

Finally, CBS and some of its sponsors had the cajones to do the right thing.

Surely, all of the bigots and racists who have supported his disrespect for others can find other ways of spending their time.

Mentoring a child?
Volunteering at a senior center?
Something productive that contributes to the betterment of society.

Mr. Imus's daily barrage of insults on the airwaves served only to reinforce racist beliefs and behavior.

I just wish they had fired him sooner.

Thank you CBS.

I think everyone is over reacting. The last time I checked, America still had free speech, and although it was a stupid comment, it was not anything that should have been so blown out of proportion. The players say that are "scarred for life". Give me a break. If that's the case, they better grow some thicker skin. I've heard worse things from kids on the playground.
