Comments on: Rutgers Blasts Imus' "Despicable" Remarks
But Players Stop Short Of Saying Radio Host Should Be Fired; They Will Meet With Him Privately
- The problem with most blacks is adopting a sense of unification. Considering, most slaves came from various regions in Africa, it has been difficult to pinpoint one's ancestry or heritage.
Whites in this country don't have that problem, they can always trace their roots.
However, blacks have been amalgamated with the "rainbow" effect, which it makes it difficult for them to establish a nexus or beginning.
Although most identify with Africa, many, however, will not admit the ambiguity. Africans don't view blacks in America the same way, as a matter of fact, because Africa is so "fractionalized", they don't see the connection unless they can exactly pinpoint their origins.

kailumego... that makes sense, I guess. as much as anything else I've heard before.
Here's something else I wonder about; Most blacks would have us all believe that in the 1600's, white men got on ships, sailed to Africa, went into the jungles, captured Africans, brought them to AMERICA, and made SLAVES of them, and I guess they did, IN SOME CASES. However, MANY OF THEM were SOLD to the white men by OTHER AFRICANS WHO CAPTURED THEM, and YET NOBODY'S MAD At the BLACKS WHO SOLD OTHER BLACKS... WHY NOT? - Reply to this comment
- No, it's not considered discrimination. Last time I checked, players have try-outs. The best players make it. Did you ever think that maybe those players, who happend to be prodominately black are better players, than the other students who try out at Rutgers? Or is that not possible?

- Blacks trying to assimilate into white society, or trying to not offend anyone, came up with the "title", label, whatever, African Americans. Personally, I don'[t] use the label, because African American suggest one that has migrated from Africa trying to seek American citizenship.
That has always bothered me, because whites don't reference themselves as white, European, etc.
Americans, so why does blacks.

- Both need to be "censored", and yes Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, the NAACP, Urban League etc. should have addressed this problem a long, long, long, time ago, maybe they will now.

Maybe, but I'm not gonna hold my breath 'til they do. They get too much spotlight with their "song and dance" of self-righteousness - Reply to this comment
- The comments by Imus are offensive but so are much of what is seen or heard in this world. If public protest can be emphasized by those who are offended over this matter, which we should, then this would be a great time to cleanup the entire social environment. I am equally offended by inappropriate language, immodesty, sexual innuendos, bigotry, and violence. Imus should be castigated but since he's being called on the carpet for his deplorable comments of these young ladies, our society should start taking names and demand the same protest and institute regulations to inhibit all offensive material, content, language, and conduct.

- Geroge221, clearly you should have did your homework before making your comment about no white players at rutgers. There is, and in fact, one was featured at the press conference for the players, also, discussing her dislike with the comments Imus made.

- I am a black male student at Norfolk State University, studying Mass Communications with an emphasis on Radio/Television Broadcasting. Witnessing and reading about this issue, has brought a certain sadness about me. One because I feel that, we as a people, not just African Americans, have come to far, for inconsiderate, unintelligent, and racist comments, such as the ones Imus used, to be made. Secondly, it saddens me further, because Imus is in the career field in which I hope to be a part of one day. Realizing that I will have to deal with people, like himself is ridiculous. I have started a petition around campus, which will be forwarded to CBS, to have him terminated, two weeks is not nearly enough. And this is not even his first offense, using racist comments. I have also expressed in my letter to CBS, that I will be sending along with the petition, that if they do decide to keep Imus on, we will join with many of the other organizations against their decision, and will boycott the network. And send letters to sponsors and advertisers, who use the network.

- kailumego... I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and I'll EVEN hand you a SAW before I go... You seem to be able to talk about some sensitive topics, so here goes. Why is it that blacks are "AFRICAN AMERICANS"? My people came from ENGLAND in about 1820, but I don't call myself an "ENGLISH/AMERICAN"... WHY IS just "AMERICAN" NOT ENOUGH? Works for ME!

- I wouldn't loose any sleep over it either, but, it makes absolutely no sense to me to blast low-class blacks for exploiting black women on the one hand, while patting someone like Imus on the back for making identical statements on the another.
I deplore both low-class simpleminded blacks that feed into the saga of "institutional racism" by doing the "master's" dirty work through debasing and exploiting their own race with filth and covert racists that hide behind free-speech in order to justify their felonious garbage.

- What makes you think I'm a man, just demonstrates how some individuals can make mindless assumptions about people without getting to know them.
Just like IMUS!!!!!!

Guilty as charged, kailumego. My apologies if I'm Wrong about you being a man. Your screenname is not gender-specific, so yes , I assumed you were a man; Is this too, a GREAT SIN to you? - Reply to this comment
- So, I firmly stick by what I wrote, supposed you went to the men's room and a black mother was standing there waiting for her child to come out. But when she saw you enter, she immediately scream to her son hurry out, because, joke, joke, "kiddie-rapist" approaching.
You'd think that's O.K., because after all, it's just words, and sticks and stones.
kailumego;
I still think you're comparing apples to oranges, but I'll play along and say I wouldn't like it. Nor would I lose a minute of sleep over it, for, as I stated earlier, THAT'S NOT WHO I AM. - Reply to this comment

- of all the comments below, those of Mikayla1961 are the best ... anyone who can use the term "postop Transexual" regarding this issue is TRUELY creative.
By the way ... Imus is a freak, but come on people ... the girls whining on TV today that he destroyed their moment is a bit much ... remember the old saying "sticks and stones"? - Reply to this comment
- Although prostitution is a %u201Cvictimless crime%u201D, it is still illegal last time I checked, so what do you think the word %u201Cho%u201D means.
He called them %u201Cnappy-headed-hoes%u201D, ho is slang for prostitute, wh@re, etc. A woman who sells her body for money, is a wh@re, which is also a %u201Ccriminal offense%u201D.

There are certain individuals that demonstrate stereotypical behavior, however, labeling people based on an unreliable assumption is ridiculous.
If he had called "lil-Kim" a ho, a lot of black people may not have liked it, but understood, because, of her flagrant sexual behavior and self-abasement. But, to make vicious attacks on young women, and educated women at that, because some stupid-misguided low-class black men used the term in their music, is unforgivable.
I think gangster rap music is "TRASH", just like the white folks posting here that think it's O.K. to debase individuals because of their race. - Reply to this comment

- and FINALLY, kailumego... When, in the RARE INSTANCE someone offends me, I don't NEED an AL SHARPTON, or a JESSE JACKSON to take up my cause, because I can handle it MYSELF! Maybe this is why so many, (not ALL, mind you) blacks are offended by name calling; because they LACK something, (self-respect, maybe, confidence in themselves?)I'M TOTALLY SERIOUS.

- wayfedup, what if a black commentator made an "open-ended" comment referencing you as a pervert, sexual deviant, child molester, serial murder, cannibal, embezzler, necrophilia, etc.among other things that'll be O.K. too????????
kailumego... Imus wasn't calling the girls rapists, cannibals, perverts, etc; Those things are CRIMES. He called the girls "nappy headed ho's" NOT a criminal offense... JUST BAD MANNERS!
OTHERWISE, "I'd be on him like white on rice in a glass of milk on a paper plate in a snow storm!!!"(Damon Wayans in "MAJOR PAYNE",) I LOVE THAT MOVIE! - Reply to this comment
