Texas Woman Leads Police On 25-Mile Chase; 9-Month-Old Thrown From SUV In Crash
- To Agnim & Closet Hippy; I hope that you never have the misfortune to have to dial 911. I hate to have to fine, intelligent, thoughtful individuals like yourselfs to eat crow. I know your type, have worked in Los Angeles for 20 years protecting whiny assed snivelers like you from the real bad guys. Please do us all a favor and write your drivel somewhere else. People like yourselfs just don't get it. You have to FOLLOW the rules just like everyone else. You are not special. You can not break the rules because it is a material thing and we can always go buy a new thing. I would like to hear you say that after your house has been cleaned out by some crackhead. Have a nice day.

- First of all, those of you who feel that just getting the plate and backing off haven't heard all the details. The SUV had temporary tags, not regular tags, no license plate to read, as she was test driving the SUV. Second , she chose to run, with her 9 month old laying, not restrained in any way in the front seat. Third, the woman was driving erratically long before the police arrived. Other motorists called her in. I have driven that stretch of I35 many times, and have many times seen cars doing at least 100mph, a few times I have done it myself when I was not paying attention to my speed. So where is the high speed above the other motorists' speed? Question for those of you who feel that the cops should have just let her go:How would you feel that if instead of only killing her own child, she had run into your family member b/c the cops let her go and they ended up dead? Wouldn't you then want to sue the police for not protecting your family member b/c they backed off instead of ending the chase? Its a lose-lose situation for the police. Why must people in today%u2019s society always have to blame anyone but the person whose fault it really is? This woman chose to drive erratically, she chose to continue to do so once police arrived, she chose to leave her infant unrestrained, she chose to continue after three different non lethal methods of attempting to stop her were used, she is the one responsible for what happened, not the police.

Do you just go to the end of the stories to see how they end? LOL
The second to last paragraph stated that the POLICE CHASED THE WOMAN AT 110 MPH!
And for what?
There was no indication that the woman's speeds were as high before the crazy cops agitated things and endanger even more people.
The woman may have been driving recklessly; but she didn't start hitting speeds of 110 mph until the crazy cops encouraged it!
You are from Texas like our leader. Seems like a lot of dense people are from Texas?
Common sense is not very common in Texas.
However, in some other wiser jurisdictions, police are not allowed to just up and chase at break neck speed any motorist who merely refuse to stop when the bullies in blue say so. - Reply to this comment
- Angrywasp, you've insulted me without thinking about what you were saying. How can stolen vehicles mean so much to you and right wing companions? You're all materialistic and need to get a life.
I don't have much material stuff so my wisdom is wiser than yours and the all rich folks who want the police to chase me after I took something from them.
So I stole something. It's not the end of the world. Buy another car.
Another thing to understand is that woman drive REAL bad. So can you tell if they are driving reckeslesslesly? OK?
Women and cars, man, I tell you. Maybe Saudi Arabia is right about not letting them drive cars.
So stop insulting me, OK? - Reply to this comment
- I believe everyone is missing the issue here. The Police got a call that a woman was driving reckless. So they go out to the area find the vehicle and try to stop her after I am sure they monitored her driving first. She is the one who chose not to stop. And she is the one who knew she had her 9 month old daughter in the vehicle. She is the one that is to blame for her childs death. And also for driving like a idiot in the first place. And when the law backoff to get her to slow down she is the one that chose not too. And she deserves whatever she gets for this very stupid mistake. And also has to live with it the rest of her life.

- tgh and angrim...
all those quotes but one in my 9:48 post are yours.
I don't want to see pre-toddlers killed either, but;
1. The cops Began the pursuit AFTER the SUV was reported "driving recklessly" So it was already in commission of a felony (my point)
and
2. Read the VERY LAST PARAGRAPH of the story. The cops made at least THREE attempts to bring the chase to a non violent conclusion... spike strips, blockage of intersecting traffic and to quote the article itself, "...and backed off the SUV hoping it would slow down. But Riza continued to drive until she crashed..."
So there you are. The cops did EXACTLY what you've been crying all afternoon for them to do. EXACTLY. Word for word.
So the next time you run in here and start running off at the mouth about "repression from the Man," be damm sure you read and COMPREHENDED the article, and leave your personal political dogma and agenda in the sink.
And from this point forward, I'm letting your comments speak for themselves. - Reply to this comment
- Lots of chin music about how the police are to blame - what they should and should not do, it's their fault, they killed the kid.
First; if the woman stopped initially there would be no news. Second, if the woman stopped after her tires were flat, there would be little news; Third if the police made no attempt to apprehend the woman and the baby was killed, there would be bigger news.
Try this - a society where there are no police. OOPS! forgot - that's a place called Somolia. How well is that working out? - Reply to this comment
- I wonder how some of the posters here would feel if while the police were chasing this women they slammed their police cruiser into their Son Or Daughter that was innocently driving to the mall on this Interstate and killed them?? They killed an innocent baby as it is. I hope the grandparents of that child get a good attorney and go after those thoughtless cops!

- "These left-leaning, liberal, anarchist types who posted the quotations in the post below say it's OK to run from the cops as long as you did nothing SERIOUS?
Posted by angrywasp at 09:54 PM : Apr 08, 2007"
Don't be obtuse; no one said anything about "it's being OK to run from cops" regardless of act done!
That is not even the issue here.
The issue is when should a police ENCOURAGE (practically) a high speed chase or fire his pistol that will likely ENDANGER INNOCENT CITIZENS?
Is a cop chasing a suspect allowed to just pull out his weapon and start firing?
There are occasions to fire the weapon at the suspect and there are occasions not to fire on a suspect.
There are times to encourage a high speed chase; and there are times to NOT ENCOURAGE A HIGH SPEED CHASE.
It's just common sense.
Some jurisdictions recognize the common sense issue.
Texas seems a bit backward on a lot of common sense issues. - Reply to this comment
