Calls Report On Death Of Pat Tillman "Unsatisfactory," Urges Congressional Investigation
- Rummy ran the whole thing with the expertise of a one-celled virus
I think you are giving Donald Rumsfeld WWWAAAYYY too much credit there, veteran71. There are alot of one-celled viruses that get more done than RUMMY! - Reply to this comment
- What a time for our Department of Defense to reveal it doesn't tell the truth to Americans! Do we really trust these guys to plan any war with anybody? What are they not telling us, now?!!
It's an issue of integrity and trust-- typical of problems afflicting the Bush regime, from Bush on down. From the beginning, DOD and Rumsfeld lied about Tillman, and then stonewalled for years, hoping their lies would be forgotten. Should it be any surprise for them now to say, "OK, we were wrong, this is unacceptable, but so what?"
Of course, official deceit is much deeper and broader than Tillman. Cheney, who wrote much of the script for Iraq, probably has a good idea how Bush will contrive war with Iran, too. As the bozo with a hairtrigger paranoia-- and probably the only Vice President to take charge of actual Vice-- Cheney shares the inability to choose his targets wisely. Cheney's furtive, vindictive and secretive actions, from the first day, have created self-inflicted wounds in the Bush regime.
To GOP posters worried Bush regime incompetence and corruption might go public, you can relax. Pretty much everybody knows your little secret, now. The only question now is how Bush can leave the GOP with any dignity intact.
The Metropolitan Opera's Rudolph Bing told this anecdote of a diva who retired earlier than expected. As she explained it, "I would rather have people exclaim, 'Already!?" than shake their heads, "At last!" - Reply to this comment
- The Mysterious Death of Pat Tillman
Pat Tillman was a straight-A football hero who'd turned down a $3.6 million NFL scholarship to join the Army and fight AlQaeda after 9/11, much to the public delight of Bush and Rumsfeld. Following training he was sent to Iraq, where he didn't like what he saw; a fellow soldier remembers, "He said, 'You know, this war is so f-ing illegal. And we all said, Yeah. That's who he was. He totally was against Bush. Another soldier in the platoon, who asked not to be identified, said Pat urged him to vote for Bush's Democratic opponent in the 2004 election, Sen. John Kerry.
"He was an avid reader whose interests ranged from history books on World War II and Winston Churchill to works of leftist Noam Chomsky, a favorite author." (ref)
His mother Mary Tillman said a friend of Pat's arranged a private meeting with Chomsky, the antiwar author, to take place after his return from Afghanistan.

- With the democrats in the white house the baby boomers need to work longer and harder to get their measly retirement checks. The Democrats have covertly increased taxes for next year by not making tax cut permanent. They end this year.

- NYCKATE--I never said that Tillman was killed purposefully. I said that the general who lied to cover up the incident for political propaganda reasons should not escape prosecution for his lies, which as the article pointed out, could be charged as a crime. Just because he is out of the military (on a real nice fat general's pension, living in La Jolla or Virginia, no doubt) doesn't mean, or shouldn't mean, that he is immune from criminal prosecution. I certainly don't believe anyone in the U.S. Army TRIED to kill Tillman. I do believe that the big-shot brass lies and lies and lies whenever it suits their purposes, and our Glorious Leader, Prez. Bushit, has yet to make anyone accountable for their crimes or mistakes (except a few buck privates at Abu Ghraib). The fish rots from the head!

Hey Barb... Thus far, over 3200 American troops have died for George W. Bush's LIES; Can you Shrug these off as easily as you can Pat Tillman?
If so, you must be one of the ones who sold your soul for PERMANENT TAX CUTS. - Reply to this comment
- Hey Jebby_One - are you a latent homosexual? Suffer from "shrinkage"? Would explain your unAmerican ways.

- "Cpl Tillman (posthumously) was a professional athlete in the NFL."
He was a football player after his death? Wow, talk about tough!
And Jebby_one: I'm not a liberal, but considering that he was killed by US troops firing in error, it's difficult to see how he is anything other than a victim of the US army. If you can't face the truth, that's just too bad. - Reply to this comment
- I am coming to hate everyone who still supports Bush and his War on Freedom at this point, and with good reason. If you can still support this administration after the unmitigated disaster it has shown itself to be in every area, you are a backward, delusional mental child with a God complex, just like your twisted dolt of a Fuehrer.
Tillman's death is yet another sign of the utter failure of this administration, and the reactions of, "Well, he's a hero, this stuff happens in war" is another sign of the amazing degree to which this administration avoids accountability for its lies, mistakes, and generally vile behavior. It's amazing to me that this little Hitler and his thugs are still in office. - Reply to this comment

"Liberals got what they wanted.
Instead of the image of Pat Tillman in his ranger uniform it was important that the neo-Commies show him in a football uniform and portray him as a victim of the US Army."

So, the Tillman family are a bunch of neo-commies?
What a ridiculous statement.
The 'War on Terror' has been an unmitigated disaster. Terror attacks are up world-wide, Al Qaeda is bigger than ever, and the Country that produced the most terrorists is an 'ally' raking us over the coals for more oil-$$$. Only GW Bush and his big corporate-$$$ fascist cronies are capable of such corrupt mismanagement. - Reply to this comment
- NYCKATE;
Afgan didn't go to war to defend alQueda
They are trying to save their own land, from before Russia, now the U S. It doesn't matter where it happened, the fact still remains HE VOLUNTEERED TO GO TO ANOTHER COUNTRY TO KILL AND BE KILLED; When I was a soldier (korean war ) we didn't have these phony heros. - Reply to this comment

- Sure, let's "get over" all the deaths of our troops, right? Wrong!
The call for an investigation is because of the lies about how it happened and the circumventing of the investigative process of such incidents.
We don't need to worry about seeing another 5 years of ongoing investigations like we did under Clinton because the Drunk-in-chief doesn't have that long. There's quite a backlog to look at where the previous do nothing Congress buried its head in the sand like you all want done now on everything. If there's a breakdown in procedure it needs to be fixed;if not, an investigation won't take long.
To those who say that Democrats can't legislate and investigate-we can walk and chew gum at the same time, even if you can't. - Reply to this comment
- It is unfortunate that American soldiers die from friendly fire, but that too is a result of war. Lack of communication has been the key factor in all instances of fratricide and the US military has done all it can to insure things of this nature doesn't happen. I am a former soldier that has been medically discharged and can tell you from experience, we were all taught about fratricide, how it happens, how to avoid it, but with every precaution taken, it is still possible. As for the officers who job it was to inform the parents of exactly what happened, i do agree that they should be held accountable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and that if for the service to decide, not anyone else. As for Pat Tillman, he died a hero and should be remembered for that and not for the controversy surrounding his untimely death.

- A Congressional investigation? Give me a break. Not everything needs to be given an in-depth investigationl. Tillman was a top athlete who gave up lots of money to go to war. Many people gave up lots of money to go to war. He was killed. It's unfortunate, but let's get over it.

- newsreader2 - your condolences are noted and appreciated. Cpl Tillman (posthumously) was a professional athlete in the NFL. The tragidy of his death was compounded by an attempt from the highest levels of the Pentegon to abuse his sacrifice in order to cover up incompetense and disaster. They wanted to talk about Tillman, the legend, while the press was talking about Abu Gharib.
According to the family statement:
"We do not think that Pat's notoriety %u2014 about which Pat himself was self-effacing %u2014 gives him a special qualification for Congressional attention.
But if that notoriety can serve as a catalyst to open dozens of cases %u2014 many of the families known to us %u2014 of troops who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan by fratricide, and whose families, like us, were deceived about the circumstances of these deaths.
We believe Pat would approve of this." - Reply to this comment
- To explain this away as mistakes or errors in reporting completely defies human behavior, particular among officers who should hold an extremely high regard towards honoring the absolute truth in a soldiers sacrifice. I can't imagine anything honorable that would hold up the reporting of this to the family, fear or pressure from superiors and a sociopathic administration that constantly works to build an impenetrable fortress of lies to insulate itself from democracy, maybe, but not honor, and definitely not 'mistakes'.

- The only that sounds compelling in this article (and it certainly isn't CBS News Military Propogandist Mitch Miller) are the concerns and statements made by the Tillman family, and I don't think anybody doubts that this was a result of freindly fire, so I can't imagine why people think that the Tillman's are just having trouble adjusting to that fact --- maybe it should have been a member of your family since you seem so ready to serve up someone else's life and have it used for war or military propoganda.
Anybody who has worked with DoD inspector generals knows that the explanation and recommendations given are riddled with hidden culpability and accountability. Inspectors, when they're not under pressure to hide something and have an investigation closed without further pursuance, are usually far more candid [ultimate and irrefutable credibility is a fundamental is a requirement of their job]about giving details of culpability when important figures in the government or military are not involved. - Reply to this comment
