We also lost two cats in february. Spud was 18 years old and our best friend, Ravenworth was quite a bit younger. Both died of organ failure and we suspected the food but it was too late for them. Thanks Menu Foods for your blatant neglect while manufacturing your products. I hope you get a taste of your own medicine.

My precious Dog died this past November 06, just two weeks short of the recall list that has been just been posted! My dog was a healthy five year old. After eating the dog food on the recall list, she went into acute renal failure and died.

Is anyone else sharing a like situation? Has this been going on longer than we the consumer are aware of?

My cat Chancey has always eaten the pouched food made by Menu foods with Wegmans Food Market label on it. When Chancey stopped eating her food we started to get worried because it wasn't like her to miss her morning meal but we thought she was having problems with her teeth. When we brought her to the vet they kept her to do a blood test on her and give her some food directly in her stomach but the vet seem to think it was her kidneys because of the sores that were present in her mouth. Sure enough the call the next day was from the vet suggesting to put her to sleep because the readings from her blood test showed kidney failure beyond the point of a medicine remedy. I tried like everyone else to call the number that was provided but I never could get through to them. I wrote an e-mail to the company asking for $300 that we spent on chancey at the vet. Chancey was 12 years old and part of the family so she will be sadly missed. The $300 won't bring her back but it will pay the vet bill.

My 4 year old Boston Terrier Dog, has been on a steady diet of Eukanuba Dry and Nupro moist for his entire life. Last week we opened a new bag of Eukanuba and he refused to eat, vomited, and did not want to play (not at all like him). Though none of the product match the code, I am concerned the problem goes beyond the recall list. I have started feeding him homemade foods and think the research needs to go beyond the "cuts and gravy".

Our little A.J. died on the 7th of March. We fed him Pet Pride in a pouch for a long long time. Suddenly he became ill, vomiting and diahrea and tired soo tired. He was put on an IV and died 6 days later. He was what made our house a home. Our love for our little Schnaucher is and will continue all our lives. Please let me know if an attorney would help or send me info on what I can do with other grieving parents

hey maggg1 -

all these pet owners that have made comments on this post WERE being responsible pet owners. they fed their pets and now some are dying. we buy products 'in good faith' that it will nourish our beloved pets, not kill them. you wouldn't be on your high horse if your cats were affected and dying of renal failure. ***, have a heart.

It has nothing to do with where the company is BASED. The food was most certainly manufactured in the states. (Unless Kansas is part of Canada now?) Lets not forget American based Diamond dog foods. Their foods caused several dogs to die of liver and kidney failure about a year ago. So please do your research before spouting off about being duped by by the "evil non-Americans" and "flying your flag". It is an unfortunate thing that has happened to pets, so lets stay focused on that.

With the recent investigation in to the pet food industry, I think that it is time for consumers to really take a look at what they are feeding their beloved pets. Some consumers have been misled to believe that what they are feeding their pets is good quality pet food. If pet owners would take the time to read and investigate what the labels on pet foods mean, then they would come to realize just how dangerous these top-selling commercial brands are for their pets. For instance, if you knew that you were feeding your pets food that was marked as not passable for human consumption would you still feed it to them? Knowing that the ingredients include cancerous tissue from cows, slaughterhouse floor scraps, and the remains from other cats and dogs, would you still continue to feed this food to your pet? Sure that packaging looks nice, but that doesn%u2019t mean that the product inside is good for your pet. These products are cheap for one reason only. They are produced cheaply. My suggestion for consumers is to do your research on pet foods and to buy the highest quality food that you can afford to buy.

Also, for the person who mentioned that they feed their animals Science Diet, there have been studies that show that two of the chemicals used to preserve the dry food have been know to cause cancer. Just wanted to give you a heads up on that if you feel like you want to do more research on the subject.

we all want to provide what is best for our pets - all the dog and cat food seems to be from the same place and now science diet is on the list - I do hope your cats are well, I would not wish this on anyone it is terrible to watch your pet that you were feeding what you thought was a good food die. Please do not act so smug.

OK guys, I have read all of the comments. I have 2 cats and have owned dogs in the past. You as a pet owner are responsible for the welfare of your animal. So the comment that all of the different foods are made by the same company?... Of Course they are... So are all of the Chips, Mayonaise, and meat in the US... We have all known this, it is the basics of our free economy... "You can't make money without being either Number 1 or 2 in the market" John Chambers CEO of Cisco Systems.

So the downside of this is US, as consumers doing our own research on what is the best for our pets.

Good Luck to everyone, I pay the price for Science Diet.. and my cats are healthy

Our precious Boxer dog, Autumn Gretel, passed away last week from liver dmage, resulting from the pet dog recall. Our canned dog food was among the recalled brands, and matched the recall serial numbers.
Our Autumn Gretel was a very healthy vibrant Boxer, one that our vet had previously said to be one of his best 'in shapte' patients!
Autumn Gretel died under the care of our wonderful veterianarian with IVS and antibiotics being administered to her, to hopefully *** any further liver damgage. However, we lost our Autumn Gretel dispite the great efforts of all involved.
Autumn Gretel had suffered rapid weight loss, vomiting, total loss of appetite, and fatigue prior to her death.

We tried to save her, especially being that our only child, our daughter, who listed her a a "sister" when asked of her family members at school this year was hurting so without her 'best buddy'! Our daughter is so broken hearted!
A pet's death affects the entire family, especially when those who think of their pets as "family"!
This is horrendous, and is quite difficult to absorb!
I have attempted to contact the Menu Foods company, however, to no avail! Their number is constantly busy, even at 8:00 a.m.!
It is my wish to pursue this matter further, in honor of our Boxer dog, Autumn Gretel.
We thank you for reading our story of our wonderful Boxer ,Autumn Gretel, and for providing information upon CBS website and news broadcasts!

Thank you,

oh, i'm so sorry about your cat. i have 2 dogs, but luckily all they get is dry food. i've had dogs (and only 1 cat) all my life and have had to put several of them down due to one thing or another. that's the most heartbreaking thing to do, even though you know it's the right (and only) thing to do. God bless you. this recall thing is so very frightening - i've alerted all my animal loving friends about this in case they didn't hear of it on the news.

Nice to finally find out that all those VERY costly cat foods are made in the same place as the cheap store brands...and not even manufactured in this country. Once again we Americans have been duped and ripped off thinking we are supplying our pets with the best nutritional foods which in fact are only mass produced for huge financial gains. SHAME!SHAME! Am glad I have been feeding my 20+ cats Whiskas. At least this is made in the USA. So sorry for those whose animals became sick or died...was only because they were trying to feed what we all thought was the best.

My dog was terribly sick. We as pet owners need to know what the source of the sickness is. We need to know if it's something like lead or mercury poisoning that could affect our pets for years to come.

My cat, Mew, had eaten the Walmart Brand, Special Kitty for years. All of a sudden on February 18, he started panting, howling, lack of coordination, and really stressing out. We took him to our vet the next day (no local vets open on Sunday) and after multiple lab work, the results were kidney failure and the need to switch his food, etc. We started switching him from Special Kitty to the new "kidney food" but his symptoms only got worse to the point that he refused to eat and had other problems, so we had him euthanized as there was really nothing we could do for him. He was a 13-year-old very healthy cat until this.

Well, after this news all came out on Saturday, we have been trying to contact Menufoods and have continous busy signal. They even took their E-Mail off their web site. What are we pet owners supposed to do??? I hope that the media really investigates this fully.
