It's not "What is wrong with all you people", there is only a couple people that are saying the agree with the police officers (Cops). If it was so right, then why did they apologize to the family? What type image are they projecting to the public they are serving? Not much of one from what I see.

Parked bike in your friggin' dreams. Well, maybe when he seen the cops coming. Before that you can bet he was showin' off and rippin up and down the sidewalks to his hearts content. Now he is sad,........sad, because he got cuffed.

The kid wasn't doing anything wrong - he was sitting on a parked bike - not riding it.

I doubt an adult would even get a ticket, and definitely not arrested and hauled in. I wonder what the police had against that family, or that neighborhood - there's very obviously something not right here.

RandalDS, "I see nothing here that the police did wrong."

You are nuts. Arrested, mug shot and finger prints? A FREAKIN ADULT WOULD ONLY GET A TICKET !!!! Are you completely F#@$en brain dead from drugs or just born terminally stupid?

You gave up the US Constitution, the Republic, and God for cheap sadistic thrills of power. You are the lowest scum on earth.

We live in a police state. Get used to it, or fight it. Would this have happened 50 years ago? No. Why do we never give kids the benefit of the doubt anymore? Why do we want to throw kids in detention centers at the drop of the hat rather than give them a stern lecture and some community service? It's sickening.

Oh for Pete's sake! Some of you here are acting like he was beaten to the ground with clubs and tazzed! They snatched him off the bike by his collar. So what?!? If the mother had been doing her job as a parent then her "baby" wouldn't have been on the sidewalk on a dirt bike in the first place. Could the police have handled it better? Sure, but this is hardly abuse of power. This is a case of the police doing what was really the mothers job, keeping her kid out of trouble. I see nothing here that the police did wrong.

These police need some serious common sense and morals classes. This is all part of the psycological training you bozos brought upon yourselves when you volunterally gave up the US constitution to organized crime. Zero tolerance..LOL. I see they now ID obvious 60 year olds for beer and cigarettes. You are nuts!!! You are complete idiots!!!

Clearly, our police forces have become infested with cowards, idiots, and bullies.

Incompetent and abusive cops pose a far greater threat to society than any ordinary criminal. Ordinary criminals cannot hide their crimes behind a badge.

I would have fingerprinted and taken DNA swabs of both parents and the kid before his release. Never know what might show up now, or later.

usmcvn - funny how amazingly wrong you can be in just one post. Food preferences - who knows - you may be right. But there's a consistient set of stats - the stock market goes up more with Democratic presidents than with Republican ones - a trend going back over a hundred years, and many, many different presidents. Blue states contribute more to the tax base and take less than red ones - consistiently, and per capita. So your silly ideas might need a bit of work to align with facts. Oh - and those pesky liberal blue states also have lower divorce rates - it's almost a straight correlation - the more conservative an area, the higher the divorce rate. Interesting, huh?

Although I don't know what your rant has to do with a law-and-order stance taken to a stupidly extreme position case like this one. A kid was sitting on a parked bike, a stupid officer and his even dumber superior were drunk on power and had fun bullying the little 7 year old and his mother.

"A seven year old...come on. Zero tolerance is a license for the abuse of power.

Exactly correct!

The myopic 'zero tolerance' also teaches the children to vengeful against each other and to not give each other a break, or to just let some things go as children are inclined to do.

I will never move to Baltimore. It is crazy that we the people pay the salaries of low I.Q. civil servants to lord over us with no power of reason or empathy when the offender is apparently a good person. A seven year old...come on. Zero tolerance is a license for the abuse of power.

Yah, they need to scared young children sitting, not riding on the sidewalk, at an early age so the don't turn into drunk drivers. Pretty tough, picking on a little 7 year old like that. Shows how smart they are too. Now...if that was a 250lb Hell's Angel on his bike on the sidewalk and it was running, what do you think that little wimp cop would do then? Your right, nothing, not a thing. Your missing the point here. Reasonable force is a big clue. Say what you want, it was a wrong move.

I think the cop went too far. Gee, give a 7-year-old -- or his parents -- a WARNING in a situation like this. If the kid or the parents don't obey, then do something more. But, first just point out to the kid what he is doing wrong, and give him a chance to change his behavior.

But, yeah, Mom is over-reacting. Her "baby" will get over it. We've all been wronged before, and our lives weren't destroyed. Sometimes we face challenges in life, and they make us stronger. Maybe this kid learned a lesson, which is a positive thing from this experience. (Did Mom even think of that????)

"Good. I'll bet he never does it again either! Sometimes kids need to be scared straight at an early age

Posted by RandalDS at 02:00 PM : Mar 16, 2007"

Too bad you didn't 'scared' your boy 'straight', literally.
America would today have two less pers to contend with and to keep the children safe from.

Violate the law as an adult, you go to jail and not all take downs are so gentle as this one that the mom exaggerates it to be to puff up her lawsuit. They did not pull him through a car window, they lifted him off the bike by his collar, which is perfectly reasonable. Of course this is going to get blown up all out of proportion and the mom will retire on the money she gets from the city when all the police were doing was her job, discipline her child. I promise you that in 10 years her "baby" will be in jail if she doesn't show him that violating the rules comes at a price.

Children should never ride bikes in the street...they SHOULD be on the sidewalk...a dirt bike? well, he was close to home and the gestapo was over the top in their handling of this CHILD...as for the poster who doesn't want any bike riders on the side walk...shove it! Try riding a bike on the street in any American city and see what you get...people in cars act like they'd rather kill you than share the road, until we start thinking like the Europeans who are light years ahead of us in everything from recycling, conservation, pedestrian and bike riders lanes and a slew of other progressive ideas, we'll have jerks arresting children, jerks saying the children deserved it, and jerks who think cyclists should ride their bikes in gutters...phflllttt!!!!

Real adult world? What world are you from? How would like a cop pull you over in your car and when he walks up to you he pulls you through the window by your neck, that's adult? Give me a break and get a life. Go Mom!!! She said the right thing.
