Salt Lake City Police Say Officer Prevented Gunman Who Fatally Shot 5 From Killing More
- Individuals below the age of 25 commit most of these random shootings, with the exception of the postal murders, now that should tell you something.
And for those who vociferously condemn the parents%u2019 of those whom have committed such violent offenses it could be yours if you are one those make it easy and accessible to get to your guns.
Guns shouldn%u2019t become so readily accessible nor should it be a %u201Cright-of-passage%u201D to put a gun into the hands of a child starting at the tender age of 5, and yes, some gun owners have their 5 year olds out shooting in the woods.
So, the real problem is some of these parents and their misguided priorities, what%u2019s more important owning an assault weapon, or should I say many, or saving a child%u2019s life and the lives that may be affected if he/she become so distraught as to think the only way to deal with problems is to shoot to kill.
Columbine, as well as many other school shootings should have taught you hardheaded people a lesson, %u201Cstreet criminals%u201D are not committing these offenses, as this is not an urban problem, so come out of denial, this is a middle-class white rural and suburban problem. - Reply to this comment
- Do you honestly think this is a NEW problem? Man has been killing Man for at least as long as man has recorded events. Only the efficiency is altered with more modern weapons. Ie, bombings in Iraq
Do you honestly think this is purely an American problem?? Take a look around the world, how many deaths by violence have occurred in the last decade??
And as far as looking at the parents, more often than not, there IS likely to be something wrong. Good Parents DO have bad children, however, that is the exception, not the rule, whereas it IS the NORM for bad parents to have children with problems. Does anyone doubt that most child abusers were abused themselves? Doesn't mean that all children that were abused will be abusers, but certainly increases the odds!
So I doubt that any sort of gun control would prevent these tragedies or blaming the president or TV or any other outside influence. I have 4 adult children, all fairly well adjusted and so far, no killers among them. Why? We were parents, not just a couple of adults in the same house. - Reply to this comment
- People are talking about the violent vidio games and yes, I do monitor what my kids are playing and watching to a point, but it is a shame when you have to shield them from the evening news also.

NO IT'S NOT A SHAME! The evening news is a shame. They prey on our morbid curiousity and our proclivity to negativity. I still remember watching the "Flying Wallendas" fall to their death over a street when I was 8 or 9 nine years old. I watched their bodies smash into and bounce off of the parked cars below - the image stays in my head to this day . My parents ignored the "send young children away" warning. Question: Do we really need to see the carnage? Is it that we want to see it? Do yourselves and your kids a favor and cut off the black wire that runs into the back of your TV. - Reply to this comment
- We should be able to own guns and we should know how to use them. How many people would have been killed if there had been a licensed and trained gun owner present? I do agree that showing the carnage only excites the next lunatic who is sharpening his reflexes at home with his video games. I think this incident offers credible evidence of demonic possession of this man. He had a calm demeanor and an excited smile? I'll not be surprised if some gothic, occult, or other "dark" social factors turn up in this man's past.

- Although truly a tragic event I would like to respond to yoopermom about the media's reporting on the bodies.Maybe seeing things as they are in their horrible reality seems to be the only way to draw attention to matters and get some resolutions. What those resolutions might be are far from my realm of expetise in this instance the squeeky wheel will get the grease(Hopefully soon.)

- jasperlily,
My head is not in the sand, I am very well aware of the reality of our world. But, out of respect for the families they should not be displaying a picture of this woman all over the internet. The story was told and they could have reported it WITHOUT the picture.

- I believe that Newsjeff just won the contest for the longest run-on sentence. Look no periods!
"Seems to me like however that Democrats and Republicans should consider doing something about our rising domestic crime rates, murder rates, child abuse rates, etc., that is happening here in this country, and happening on American soil, instead of worrying so much about Iraq,Iran,Korea,Australia or all of these other foreign country affairs, of course that would be too smart and too simple for our leaders, especially republicans to do, but I would think Bush and Cheney would care somewhat about this country's problems and I don't just mean bashing homosexual marriage and abortion, of course big-businesses and U.S. corporations want Bush and Cheney involved in foreign affairs to protect oil and gas interests, find illegal immigrants to come here and work for low wages, find new low-wage countries for companies to outsource American jobs to,etc, and I almost forgot protecting oil and gas interests in Iraq and other countries is on Bush and Cheney's plans as well, so I guess the issues of America's rising crime rate in the United States will just have to wait till Bush and Cheney have time to deal with it." - Reply to this comment
