I find it fascinating the former justice said ......

....... it was her plan to follow the tradition of previous justices, who enjoy lifetime appointments, to work until they die or are virtually incapacitated.

Is this the example on how we want our judicial system to operate?

Jeez

Yes it is. The point and goal of having a Supreme Court was to have the wise thoughts and counsel of people who had a long lifetime of experience and wisdom to offer. They are the elders who watch over our nation and who, supposedly, have no axe to grind and no masters to please. This is why we must be especially careful of who we allow to hold this almost sacred office in our government.

its not the country, its the morons in the Senate that couldn't handle 2 retirements at one time. Having to spend hours and hours of tax payer paid money just to find some dirt from 40 years ago on someone. One persons bad enough, imagine if they had to dig the muck up on 2 people at once

"It's hard for the nation to grapple with two (retirements) at once," she said."

I think the nation could have survived, she needs to take a deep breath, this nation depends on all of us, not 12 people in black robes

She was a republican, but one of the last of the old west libertarian ones like Goldwater. Nothing like the fascist neocon ones of today like Thomas or Scalia. She believes in keeping the government out of private citizens lives and business, instead of spying on them like the paranoid Nazi's Bush and Cheney.

I for one would be happy to see her back on the bench.
