Johnny, even mere 'signs', when posted in a public arena are subject to basic social mores.

I, possibly unlike you, do not appreciate the sight of a 'cartoon' making an obscene gesture. Had I seen one, I would have 'phoned it in' on that point alone.

'Cartoons' are for children and were originally designed to teach children the social structures and cause/effect. We would presume that adults have outgrown the need for cartoons, especially cartoons with zero civility. It may appear (by this stunt and ensuing reactions) that the '20something' youth of today are stunted in their mental acuity as to social structure which is an entirely different subject to be dealt with on another level.

We all have rights as long as those rights don't impinge on the rights of others. Take a look at the historical documents upon which this nation was founded. I have a right to 'privately' do, say and have anything I like as long as it complies with the laws of this country and does not impinge on your right to have, do or say that which you believe to be in your best interest. When such expressions are made public they are expected to comply with the public rules. That is the subject of this days discussion.

Shame on the media as well, and I'm sorry, but when this article you have just read says that "the devices were planted in nine other cities" there is a definately a sinister undertone. Umm, 'planted', are you kidding me. They were placed, and you plant bombs, not signs. They were devices, but let's get real here, let's call them what they are, amusing electronic blinking signs. CBS should feel shameful in using provocative language and hyping things up. It just looks really pathetic on their part. This should be taken as more of a joke by media, and the Boston authorities should be put in their place.

Incredible, absolutely incredible. The sheer paranoia that ensued from this blatantly obvious PR stunt, is astounding and hard to fathom. Anything new and unusual is suspect, the culture of fear has penetrated so deep into the American psyche that it overrides peoples senses to the point of near insanity - when those in places of authority cannot develop rational thoughts there is a problem, and the Boston authorities should feel shameful, and embarrased to the world. I think I'll lose sleep over how rediculous this whole situation is.

""It's clear the intent was to get attention by causing fear and unrest that there was a bomb in that location," Assistant Attorney General John Grossman said at their arraignment."

How can he not be embarrassed to even say that? Good grief. But I saw that the judge questioned whether the idea that they intended to "hoax" as opposed to just being a pub stunt. It looks like the judge has a clue in this case.

The people that need to be on trial are the idiots that run Boston!

It's ironic that the birthplace of our Freedom and Liberty (and Philly, of course) is run by a bunch of knee jerk paranoids that want to throw a couple of sign hangers in jail! They want to make lite bright a FELONY!!

Wake up America!! This is the Red Scare all over again - just take everything that GOP whacko McCarthy used to say about "Reds" and put the word terror in its place.

THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON - FREEDOM IS DEAD IN AMERICA...

This is sad...

The artists says that they were up there for three weeks and no one noticed. If that's the case, I get the feeling that somebody is trying to get a promotion. Someone needs a reality check.

And the damage keeps building with endless valuable time consumed today by the infinite number of water cooler conversations about being stuck in traffic or on the T or wherever. Enough already!! So the cops screwed up again..big deal!! What else is new?

They should jail these two ignorant, immature idiots. They are an embarassment to this country. People wonder why the international community critisizes America.

The devices were in 9 cities and only Boston went wild? Now they want Turner Broadcasting to pay for their paranoid knee-jerk over reaction.? This is just another example of the hysteria that still prevails in the wake of 9/11.

Attention: This was just a drill to demonstrate how NOT to react in the case of an emergency. If this had been a real emergency, we would have ignored it until thousands were dead. Since it was a hoax, we used it to our advantage, as a DRILL. It was just a DRILL, folks, just a drill...we're not REALLY that stupid....

(Boston PD speechwriter chews on his eraser here, at a loss for words....)

Missjami -

So you're saying no one can have an opinion against the autorities/the govt/this country/each other without violating the rules of this forum? You're one sick individual.... if CBS allows the discussions, then that is what they are. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, amplifying an opinion by posting in an open forum is not a violation of the rules per se, and aren't you guilty of the very rules violation yourself? lol...

--------
1)Take some time and re-read my post. Even with a few 'cut n paste' errors I never referred to individual opinions. Opinions are like elbows, we all have them but we don't have to bash someone else with ours.
2)Slandering me with "you are one sick individual" is indeed [not per se`] a violation of the rules of engagement. The practice is however a part of our societal problem.
3)No, I am not in violation of the rules...
