8. The nation's security infrastructure is a joke, with the TPA failing its own airport security tests year after year. Our seaports have little funding for even basic measures like lighting and fences. Forget about anything more comprehensive. And at the few demonstration projects, radiological weapons detectors set off false alarms. With Bush, it was business as usual as he tried to hand security at nine US seaports to some firm from Dubai-- the same country the FBI fingered in laundering money for al Qaeda!
9. Our southern border was a standing joke among Mexicans under Clinton, but the flow of illegals surged under Bush. Yet, it was not until this year-- after some six years of ignoring the border while preaching about protecting the homeland-- that congress vored to do something "effective". In years past, it has been easy to account for the delay-- Bush-boosters need these illegals to pluck chickens and slaughter hogs, clean rooms, harvest crops and make it appear Halliburton is rebuilding New Orleans, so the rush to close the border was not overwhelming. - Reply to this comment

10. Did I mention the national debt? Cheney lectured former Secretiary of Treasury O'Neill, "Reagan proved deficits don't matter." Cheney, you recall, is the same guy who proved WMDs would be found in Iraq. We are in debt so deeply, we resemble a family hit by credit card fraud. And guess who holds railcars ful of US treasury notes-- the very people who control the oil spigot and the friendly dictatorship of the proletariat in China. There, my friends, is a bizaare dependency.
So, while you part your hair, think over this list of "negative achievements" others insist on calling failures of leadership and criminally incompetent behavior. These are only ten of a much, much longer list, but most of it started with 911. - Reply to this comment

- smartwoman said, "It is NOT Bush's fault that the fall-out from the explosions and fire and collapse of the buildings would result in such terrible health problems... I'm sure I'll be bashed for this, but why don't liberals allow people to have differing opinions than their own without condemning those with courage to speak?

Bush is responsible for many failures around 911, including failure to ensure the safety of WTC recovery workers-- read the post, "Bush EPA Lied about WTC Air". EPA administrator Whitman is a Bush appointee, acts under Bush's direction and serves at his pleasure.
No critic of Bush has to certify his party affiliation or beliefs, and there is a huge variety of opinion about Bush coming from all directions, largely negative and largely well-deserved. A recent poll showed Bush at a 72 percent non-approval rate. Bush is found wanting by many of even his own party, including conservative Brahmins like Buckley.
The only requirement is the truth, and that truth is damning for Bush. Everyone, including Bush, should have a problem with official lies about WTC, especially those promoted by Bush administration officials. Bush is responsible for allowing a Katrina-like executive incompetence to endanger the lives and health of not only WTC workers, but the rest of the country. - Reply to this comment
- I am SO sick of the democrats bashing Bush for everything that they can think of. Calling him a villian in the white house shows how stupid most of these people are. No one thought of illnessess from the fall out on 9/11. However, the ailments did come along.
Somewhere, in time the people of the United States will see that President Bush has been a good president, and I wonder just how many mornings Gore has woke up to say, "Thank God I didn't become president!" after 9/11. President Bush has served under the most severe happenings in the history of the U.S. He is a human being, who has emotions, frailities, and actions just like every other person on the planet. There is NO ONE who could have done any better considering what the U.S. has gone through. No Democrat could have done or planned better. It is so easy to bash Bush at every turn; my hair won't go right today! That "***" Bush! See how stupid that is? Quit Bashing Bush, and pray for the man!!

- Bush EPA Lied about WTC Air--
Two days after 911, with dust still heavy in the air, Bush-appointed EPA Director Christy Whitman certified that air in Lower Manhattan was safe. Speaking to reporters gathered at Ground Zero, Whitman said, "We have not seen any reason %u2014 any readings that have indicated any health hazard."
In fact, Whitman's statement was false, says agency critic Cate Jenkins, Ph.D., employed by the EPA. Jenkins said the air at WTC was dangerous and EPA staff knew of the danger and did nothing. WTC air was not only full of asbestos fibers but the dust was heavily caustic-- in some cases, as corrosive as Drano. One WTC worker, asked why he didn't wear a mask, said he wanted to, but the work made wearing one very difficult. Besides, he said, he took the EPA's word for it the air was safe to breathe. - Reply to this comment
- Bush EPA Lied about WTC Air-- 2
After her comments, the EPA discounted Jenkins, saying she had not participated in the air sampling and knew little about EPA air assessments at WTC. Jenkins replied she read the same research EPA samplers conducted, and considers it not only faulty but directly responsible for the false safety level announced by the EPA.
Today, seven out of ten WTC workers has a new or worsened lung and/or respiratory-related condition, but for the past five years, federal assistance has been almost non-existent. Last fall, however, responding to growing criticism, Bush sent funding to the Mt. Sinai center targeted at WTC illnesses. Despite that measure, the program remains badly under-funded, according to the Mt. Sinai center. Principal reason-- some forty percent of the WTC workers affected have no health insurance to deal with their illnesses. - Reply to this comment
- I understand the pain of the family, but his father is a hero, not just a victim. There was no way to predict and analyze the situation and potential problems BEFORE our heroes responded to the tragedy of 9/11. It is NOT Bush's fault that the fall-out from the explosions and fire and collapse of the buildings would result in such terrible health problems. These people responded as they were trained, and NO-ONE could have predicted the outcome. Thank God they were there for the citizens of NYC! Did any of you Bush-bashers think on 9/11 what would happen later in time? Why didn't you speak up then? Bush didn't fly those planes, nor allow them to crash! Is Bush also responsible for every carcinogenic effect of food, air, and plants in this world? It is just absurd! Painting him as the anti-Christ is just as much a mistake as every other "hate-monger" on earth - People who hate others and then paint them with such a broad cloth, blaming them for everything, are so ill-informed and close-minded. No wonder this world is in such a dangerous position. I usually read these comments with laughter at the stupidity, but had to speak up this time for some sanity! Think clearly and stop blaming Bush for every wrong in the world! I'm sure I'll be bashed for this, but why don't liberals allow people to have differing opinions than their own without condemning those with courage to speak? I'll be praying for the US!
