His Attorneys Criticize Michael Devlin's Jailhouse Talk With New York Post Reporter
- "
Kielty said lawyers planned to ask a judge Monday to move Devlin to a more secure facility."
What the hell are they protecting this piece of krap for? - Reply to this comment
- A lot of people are thinking Shawn Hornbeck had plenty of chances to escape or tell someone where he was. He was 11 when kidnapped. I've been told that that is a vulnerable age and that children of divorces at that age often feel guilty and responsible for the divorce--they think at that age that things happen because of them. This could be true for when Shawn was kidnapped--that he felt responsible for leaving his parents and whatever other bad things happened to him with Devlin. Also, Devlin could have brainwashed him to believe that he was bad and that nobody would believe him. Devlin could have told Shawn that he had police friends. He could have used tactics to confuse him and make him doubt his own beliefs. That is what cults do to make their members stay and do what they say. Also, remember that when the 2 boys were found, there were two boys ALONE sitting on the couch at the apartment. They were not trying to make phone calls. Think of the younger boy. Both of them were surely convinced that they could not escape, and the younger one had only been there for 4 days.

- If this guy wanted "company" or friendship, kidnapping someone's children isn't the answer to that.
How about volunteering @ a YMCA or Big Brother program, or working with under-priveledged/at-risk kids---where the chance to 'make a difference' would factor in.
He's a weirdo--no doubt about it. People don't kidnap others for companionship. He's obviously had enough time behind bars to hear plenty of 'jail-house chatter'---and he knows what's in store for him---and he's grasping @ straws trying out different stories to help save/preserve his hide. - Reply to this comment
- Local MO newspaper published that he was adopted, so take it easy on the parents, family, and his childhood...

- Interesting that Devlin's attorneys are angry with jail officials, who were deceived, but seemingly not with the reporter who conducted herself in a completely unethical fashion in the pursuit of her story. I guess I don't know how they do it at big time papers like the Post, but as an editor myself, she'd have been fired in a "New York minute" if she was on my staff.

- He's still a kidnapper and a vile person, even if he kidnapped them with a gun to merely give them lollipops and play Monopoly!
But, I see no reason to pretend to be a fool. Those two boys have been through hell, not only according to them, but according to the neighbors who have talked about what they heard coming from that apartment. - Reply to this comment
- Hmm...judge not lest you be judged.
That said, hypothetically, what if it turns out that Devlin never physicially/sexually abused these boys and is just a maladjusted person who wanted some friends to play Xbox with him? - Reply to this comment
