Santana, Santa Ana, whatever. Santana is a contraction of Santa Ana, which simply means 'Saint Ann.'

Santa Ana is the name of the mountains and it's also the name of the hot winds that roll in from the desert. I've never heard it called 'Santana' and I've lived in SoCal for over 40 years.

One would think that, by now, people would be aware of the dangers of living in the dense shrub of the coastal and mountain areas. Especially during the times when the hot wind (Santa Ana) blows in from the desert.

If Suzanne needs a place to stay, I have a spare room!! LOL. Of course it is in a common 3 BR house!
One thing that bothers me: How was this fire contained so quickly?? Because these are rich people and everyone in the world shows up fast??
300 firefighters?? As I recall it wasn't that many when the last fire destoryed homes of low income folks. It is, to say the least, a shame.

Yeah well, every year we go through this, they tell these people to CUT DOWN and remove brush, dead growth and debris, NOT to build near forests loaded with trees and flammable debris, and they don't bother because they all have INSURANCE and every time their $50,000,000 mansions burn down they know with confidence that the INSURANCE will simply provide them with a new decorating design optin in their brand new mansion- it's a periodic interior decoration change opportunity for these people.

These people don't live in the REAL world where one has to work paycheck to paycheck and hope they can afford their insurance this month on their $65,000 hovel and have enough left over to EAT while these rich priks fret about the scratch in the paint on their $65,000 cars.

I say NO MORE insurance for these suckers, they want to build these mansions in firebox areas, or on the beachfront, or on a proven active fault- then they can SELF insure so the rest of us don't have OUR premiums raised to cover THEIR losses for these insane multi-million dollar 20,000 sq ft "houses"

The term "Santa Ana winds" seems to be a mid-20th-century bastardization of the original term, "Santana winds," or "devil winds" %u2014 "Santana" being a Spanish variant of "Satan." Most sources attribute its folk etymology (the alteration of an unfamiliar word over time to resemble a more familiar word) to early television news commentators.

The winds are named after the canyons in the Santa Ana Mountains making the eastern edge of Orange County. However there are a number of other mountain ranges in the Southern California region that the winds blow through.

Santa Ana is a city in Orange County, CA. The winds are Santana's.
