10-Year-Old In Texas And 9-Year-Old In Pakistan

:) Thanks - I understood what you really meant. human citizen's remarks were aimed at exyahoot, I believe.
In one way, if there had been no secret video of the hanging we would all smugly believe the whole execution was done in a "civil manner" so I guess at least the true nature of those in charge of it were exposed....which is why the camera holder is being investigated :) Sort of like our freedom of the press that's exposed one helluva lot that was meant to be covered up.
I'm past the age of curiosity over what a hanged man looks like when the trapdoor has opened. I agree, most of the fare on tv isn't worth the electricity or cable bill, not fit for most human consumption. But I still think that parents are ultimately responsible for their kids although all the outside influence does make it tough. If there were a big red burning firepit in the living room (or patio) I'm pretty sure the parents would be held accountable to ensure the kids didn't jump in it. - Reply to this comment

- Its a slimy wuzout to blame parents for what the kids see on t.v. when the t.v. producers control what is coming on t.v.,the parents don't.Your kid could be watching the Cosbys and some vulgar ad will come on....
t.v. producers should put a sign UP in the corner that gives people a warning that what is coming in 29 seconds is filty, violent, vulgar, etc. and give them time turn OFF the t.v.,
get the kids out of the room, or turn the vcr on.
t.v. could put letters UP in the corner F(ilthy),
V (iolent,), V (ulgar), S (wearing).
Instead of that rediculous disclaimer in front of filthy movies etc they should have a sign that STAYS on thru the entire movie, that way people will be warned not to get interested in the first place.
The bottom line about nasty stuff on t.v. is that they shouldn't have it there in the first place.if there is a fine for the guy who took the hanging pictures why isn't there a fine for the stations that show them? I think there IS a place for showing the hanging of Saddam because people would still be living in fear thinking he was alive, but the public should be warned it was coming. - Reply to this comment

I don't care for Bush myself. However, when someone like Saddam orders a 6 months old baby burned to death in front of her father, I really have trouble caring anything about either Saddam or anyone who thinks he's a good old boy. - Reply to this comment
- This is so indescribably sad yet I find it almost impossible to believe that a ten year old doesn't understand death or the full implication of putting a noose around a neck. When I was 8 years old almost no-one (including us) had tv but I tried suicide three times by drinking what I understood to be poison. Apparently, I didn't drink enough :) and I was most disappointed when I awoke just fine the three separate mornings after to face another onslaught of hell. I suppose it is within the realm of possibility that a ten year old might not envision the finality of hanging, but I have enormous difficulty going along with that. Of course, for many reasons it isn't very intelligent for a family member to allow a child to see photos or film of a hanging. Where are their brains?

- Hmm, I must be getting old. For some reason I doubt I'd let my 10 year old watch someone being hanged on TV to begin with.
Sad story. - Reply to this comment
- "Police said the boy had tied a slipknot around his neck while on a bunk bed. Police investigators learned that Sergio had been upset about not getting a Christmas gift from his father, but they don't believe the boy intentionally killed himself."
He ALSO could have been playing the "choking game", where kids do this to get a momentary high, some go unconscious before they can stop the process and they die.
"A 9-year-old Pakistani boy also apparently hanged himself re-enacting Hussein's execution with the help of elder sister by tying a rope to a ceiling fan and his neck in his home,"
I nominate them for the FIRST 2007 "Darwin award" for inteligence, this one takes the cake! All I can say is I'm glad this kid won't grow up to become something like an airline pilot. bus driver or something critical where having inteligence is required so you don't hurt yourself and kill innocent people in the process.
This is the kind of kid who drinks drain cleaner or clorox found in a container under the sink because they thought it was Coolaid- has happened. - Reply to this comment
- Bush has the decision making capacity of a 10 year old boy who plays baseball with frogs. But he said he hasn't seen the hanging yet.

- what a tragedy, both this kid in texas and Pakistan. Why did this execution(lynching) have to be flaunted in the media?

- Adolescence is a major learning curve of life. What children learn in the earliest years of this curve is crucial to how they handle events in later years
The most important thing parents can do is help their children understand and adapt to things occur in their lives. No matter how many times you tell them a hot stove will burn them, they will almost always have to touch it at least once just to see for themselves.
I know folks who home school their children primarily because they don%u2019t want them exposed to how other kids behave.
This is fine except that reality is the school of hard knocks no one can avoid or drop out of.
One thing I always tried to teach my kids was to think for themselves and be responsible for their actions. - Reply to this comment

- Gmond, I suspect I detect just a trace of sarcasm there ...
Point well taken. Censorship is not the answer (although I wish the media would self-censor in the name of simple good taste and respect more than they do). But if someone handed your kid a big bottle clearly labeled "POISON" and you sat there and watched him drink it ... well, who's more to blame there? Who's actually responsible for
a) keeping the poison away from the kid and
b) teaching him that drinking poison will kill him. - Reply to this comment
