I am sorry, but this man was nothing more than a nut job. Nothing this man has done in taking his life in this manner will stop or slow down anything. It never has, and it never will. This was another sensless death that will be forgotten through time or remembered as nothing more than a pittyfull thought. Being dead never helped or stopped anything, at least not in this context. Suicide is nothing more than a cowards way out of life. If he really felt the way he said he felt about the war and the killing, then he would haqve had the guts and common sense to fight this and still be alive. Not killing himself. I am sorry for the loss, I am sorry for not knowing this man who seemed to be passionate about his beliefs, but, this death will mean nothing in the long run.

Would I send my son to this war? You might ask would I send him to WW II? Or Vietnam? Maybe you would distinguish those conflicts and whether you would send your son to fight in them. But that question is misdirected in a very important way: I can't command my son to go to war. He has to make that choice. So the better question would be: would I volunteer to fight in Iraq, WW II, Vietnam? Would I volunteer to fight in any war? Respond if drafted? I don%u2019t know. I'm not equivocating, only addressing that it is a hypothetical. To a hypothetical, I can answer, sure I'd fight. But I have nightmares of battle (from my past life as a Jacobite). So how do I feel toward those who do volunteer? Impressed and maturely knowing that many things go into their decision. But I do strongly believe that a country that can't find those men is doomed. The fact that we can find them is one reason why I say there is no failure in Iraq. Objectively, I also believe it for other reasons. An attempt to establish democracy in the Middle East is a bold, brilliant, noble effort, facing a high chance of failure. That's why I greatly respect and admire those who have made the attempt--the Bush administration. They have been resolute, something I have not seen in my lifetime. They may not succeed, for reasons outside their control or fault: traitors on the home front, being a big one. But now those traitors have apparently occupied the high ground. Yet... we're still in Iraq. Why?... I'm waiting.

SusanH6 well said. Actually is scientifically proven that people with mental Illness like depression/bipolar feel about 30% more than normal people, so imagine when you felt at your worse now add 30% more on top of that and imagine that everyday either sad or happy always 30% more.

Since this man%u2019s death has been turned into a discussion of mental illness, I feel compelled to point out a few things. First, people with mental illness are not necessarily stupid. Second, people with mental illness are just as capable of making decisions about the intolerable as anyone. If this man was indeed mentally ill, perhaps it could be said that his suffering as a mentally ill person made him more sensitive to the sufferings of others. Mentally ill people are individuals and their actions cannot simply be dismissed because they are ill.

Spoken like a true Republican: selfish, self-serving, and totally self-absorbed. Here's a thought for you humanitarians, mental health services are largely unavailable for people like the "toasted activist."

While I agree with what goGOP4life said, I support those who express solidarity with our toasted activist. Therefore I would be willing to donate a case of matches to the cause.

Spin Spin Spin.

Everyone who stands up and does the right thing is mental. How many times did they repeat that word in the article? Brainwashing.

Yes, setting yourself on fire is extreme. But what do you do when the Evil surrounding you is so great? When our Government is so Tyrantical. When our President is a Mass Murderer. When our Country is so FASCIST.

I know of No Greater Love then for a Man to give up his Life for his Brother...
