Comments on: Cops Defend Shooting 92-Year-Old Woman
Elderly Atlanta Woman Dies After Shootout With Cops, Who Say She Shot At Them First
- Cops have every right to defend themselves in the face of gunfire that is directed at them, especially when their members are being killed or wounded.
Ma Barker was an old lady too.

- Here we go again ! Why do you over reacting Americans always jump the gun and make stupid uninformed comments about something you are hopelessly ill qualified to comment on. Having said that you have had a number of bloody awful roll models over the years to follow, ie your presidents. Vietnam,Koread,Afghanistan,Iraq. I tell you as a law abiding white middle of the road Brit living in England I am more scared of your screwball president than Saddam and Osma put together !!

- Wow.The thought that being old excludes you from criminal behavior is just wrong!I set up at a permanent flea market with my father for a decade.I can honestly say that 3/4 of the theft we had was from people over retirement age.It gave me a different perspective on people.

- I'm ashamed, ASHAMED of any policeman anywhere the shoots at a 92 year old woman in her home in the middle of the night. Cold, mean, arrogant, inhuman, disrespectful of elders, and stupid. They could've handled it in a much different way but the fact that they gunned down an feeble old woman, a great great grandma, the frailest of human beings, an american elder likely percieving herself to be protecting her home and her life as jack booted thugs come crashing in in the dark, shame on the police SHAME ON THEM! How would you like it if you found out your own grandma was gunned down by police. Can you imagine the shock, the trama, and the horror that would spread through your family for years to come. These policemen have committed a crime against society. I demand they all be taken off the case and brought up on charges of reckless endagerment or homicide. Certainly they must be fired!!

- cbas,
Well, we'll see. I'm not buying this story one single bit. And if you don't think the police are capable of covering up in this situation, then you have a lot to learn. - Reply to this comment
- Agnim, you're ignorance in action. Had anyone, ANYONE shot three police offiers, the police would return fire. If anyone is a racist it's you, not the police. Stop making excuses. Weak as hell.

- ---"Wow, there are some nasty people here who think a 92 year old woman deserved to be shot. I like the "believe the cops first" attitude. No wonder police corruption is so bad. They even got their cheerleaders. "---
I don't care about age or ***. Anyone who tries to kill police officers should expect that the police are going to defend themselves.
Believing the police is based upon evidence gathered and presented. If/when evidence begins to point out other complications, then opinions on who is at fault may very well change.
But...if I went through life, assuming that an entire group of working men and women are promoting a vast conspiracy and should never be believed...why pay attention to anything. Even this article we are discussing is flawed in that it has omitted the details of previous and recent drug purchases. Does that mean the entire thing is false? - Reply to this comment
- ---"I wonder how long they waited for her to answer the door? ... Sounds like a bad call by the police to me."---
Pretty much standard operating procedure. 1) Cops buy drugs at a house. 2) Cops test the drugs to make sure the suspects are selling the real deal. 3) Cops get a judge to sign a search warrant, assuming said judge feels that there is proper justification for the search of the house. 4) Cops return to the house in force, in order to contain any possible criminals, witnesses, and other people of interest. 5) Cops properly identify themselves (i.e. Wear identifiable clothing and shout thier presence to those inside). 6) Cops enter and secure the location as quickly as possible, so as to prevent evidence from being contaminated, hidden, tampered with or otherwise lost. And in this case... 7) Cops are fired upon when entering the house and return fire, in order to protect themselves and anyone else in the vincinity that might not be involved or are otherwise complying with the officers.
They had no idea who was in the house. They knew for a fact that drugs and drug dealers were in the house mere hours before. The judge saw fit to sign a search warrant, because the evidence of a continued presence of drugs presented to him was sufficient for him to authorize officers' entry. - Reply to this comment

- I find it curious that the article "forgot" to report that, according to the Atlanta PD in the first press conference, undercover narcotics officers had purchased drugs from that residence only a few hours before the shootings. They purchased drugs as part of an undercover operation, obtained a warrant through proper channels, and returned to arrest those involved in the drug-sales and the person(s) responsible for what goes on in the home - the owner.
If the elderly woman was not aware of her surroundings enough to recognize officers shouting the fact that they were the police, I really doubt if she'd have been enough of a marksman to shoot THREE trained officers. But, since she was such a crack shot with the handgun, I'd have to say that she was pretty aware of her surroundings...especially since she was ready to fire as soon as they entered.
One other thing...I'm curious to find out if her handgun was legal. - Reply to this comment
