hsmagst:

Right back at ya.........I'm betting you can't provide me with an current example of Intelligent Design.

Evolution is a theory, not fact. Intelligent Design (i.e. Creationism) is a theory, not fact. There is more evidence supporting Evolution than there is Intelligent Design. In fact the only evidence supporting Intelligent Design is the lack of real examples of creation of life via electrical charges in a nitrogen rich atomsphere (as would have been found on earth shortly after the Big Bang...after it cooled somewhat), or real living microbes on meteors (although microscopic fossils found on meteors and rocks on Mars are some evidence). Further evidence of Intelligent Design is people saying things like......we're too complex to have been created without intervention of an intelligent being......completely ignoring the evidence that we weren't created as we are today, but that we evolved from MUCH simpler organisms.

It comes down to belief. I believe in what I can see and touch. What I can see and touch are fossils, genomic comparisons, and microscopic fossils on Mars rocks. I can't see an Intelligent Creator, and until I can.....Evolution wins by default.

To Bigdmm: Of course antibiotic resistance is a good example of evolution....thats what I said, it goes on due to environmental influences. What I was asking you to provide is an example of the creation of life today, through peptides or electrical incidents........I'm betting you can't do it. Ya see, I believe we were created, the world was created by intelligent design but that evolution is an ongoing action, due to environmental influences and that proof of that is all around us, even humans are changing, sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad but the brain size alone is a very good example of it.

Somebody needs to go and dunk him in some holy water. He'll be fine then....just like all the others before him.

Also (to continue to play Devils Advocate...pun intended).....it is statistically unprovable that God exists.

The problem is with the way you are viewing the process of Evolution. Evolution is (generally, see below) not a process where huge changes occur in a short (i.e. several human lifetimes) time.

Looking at things genetically there is a 96% similarity between chimps and humans....common ancestor? Assuming Evolution is correct, yes!

As for some evidence of evolution occuring today, I do believe that the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria is an excellent example of Evolution in "real-time".

To Bigdmm: If your theory a is true, why don't we continue to see it happening today.....if its true, we should, given the advances in scientific study, be able to find examples of it going on today......and from what I read, we can't......all we can do is post theories, most of which are statistically unproveable.

Poster Mitchmills thinks that Mr. London's comments regarding shoe salesmen are un-Christian. I disagree. I, for one, am glad that someone finally has the moral courage to expose these evil charlatans for exactly what they are. I can't walk into a shoestore without them coming at me like zombies with their grotesquely frozen smiles and their disingenuous "May I help you, Sir?". I detest the way they constantly lord their knowledge of arch height, leather uppers and double-stitched Vulcanized soles over the rest of us. And after subjecting me to all their useless drivel, they never have my extra-wide size in stock! Yes, I say that the sooner this world rids itself of that malevolent race of sub-human pig men the better off we are.

Also, to use your example of the complexity of the eye, as I don't believe in Creationism then I believe that the eye developed by Evolution from a simple organ (much less complex that the eye we have today) to what we have today.

And yes, even simple organisms are complex

True, but a) there are a handfull of theories to account for that.....and note I said Theories, they are NOT fact, b) faith/belief in a Creator, which (to me) is more improbable that the theories.

Some tests have supported evidence towards point a, the only one that comes to mind is one involving self assembling peptides (i.e. peptide replication in the absence of life).....came out of Scripps Institute (if my memory is correct). I recall a more recent experiment involving electrical charges...and the "generation" of simple molecules. There are also theories regarding the origin of some molecules from extraterrestrial sources (i.e. meteors etc).

You see, the problem is once again.....what are you willing to believe.

To Bigdmm: If you have a PhD then I am going to assume that you have some familiarity with statistical probability. I don't have the figures in front of me but if you take the probability of the random development of the human eye, its almost an impossibility. Just the complexity of the eye alone seems to point to design, not randomness.
