- "I wasn't aware it was a mystery that these messages were being shopped around by Democrats."
So let me get this straight. Democrats were shopping around Pelosi's e-mail messages proving that Pelosi knew about Foley's behavior and the liberal media wasn't interested? - Reply to this comment
- "Studds certainly isn't irrelevant, but neither is Foley"
There seems to be some confusion. I'm no fan of Foley, and I make no excuses for him. I haven't seen a single Republican who wants anything to do with him either. When it comes to scandals which happen on both sides because there's such a variety of people in both parties, it just seems like Republicans eat their own and Democrats defend theirs. Compare the Republican reaction to Fey and the Democratic reaction to Jefferson if you like. Am I wrong about this? It seems pretty consistent over the years. - Reply to this comment
- Studds is not irrelevant.. just doesn't do anything to excuse or minimize Foley's behavior or the GOP coverup. There are a number of people testifying at this point that Foley's behavior was reported to the leadership. Ronnie is the only one I know of thus far who apparently knows of someone who told Pelosi. I think there are some people who might want to talk to you Ronnie.

- "Actually I believe that your only purpose of bring up Studds is to minimize Foley's behavior and some how justify the cover up. "
I have never minimized Foley's behavior, but I believe your response to studs was "Has it been 23 years already?" That's just plain hypocrisy.
"Searched the ABC archives for that story on how Pelosi knew about Foley back in April. Can't seem to find it. Got a link maybe?"
Don't have a link to my television, but I'll see what I can find. I wasn't aware it was a mystery that these messages were being shopped around by Democrats. - Reply to this comment
- Studds certainly isn't irrelevant, but neither is Foley and the fact that the Republican congressinal leaders failed their duty in protecting the pages. They should be held accountable for that as well as any representatives who had the direct responsibility to oversee the program. They didn't perform well enough in their job. Did Hastert and his staff try to keep this from the voters to decide? The Ethics commitee will see. What district was Studds from? Thank god I know it wasn't mine (though I couldn't have voted for him anyhow).

- "So let me see if I've got this straight. It's OK to vote for a child molester as long as it's been a few years since he did it."
Actually I believe that your only purpose of bring up Studds is to minimize Foley's behavior and some how justify the cover up. Take that spin stuff to Faux News. It isn't going to work for you outside of neocon land. - Reply to this comment
- Foley is a nasty rascal! PERIOD.........

- 1996 is 10 years ago. That's the year Studds finally retired. So let me see if I've got this straight. It's OK to vote for a child molester as long as it's been a few years since he did it. Is that your position on why Studds is irrelevant even though he was in office just one presidency ago?

- Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Its time the people of America send a message to Congress, your power is not absolute! The power lies with each of us. May God Bless America

- Thank you RonnieHM, I appreciate your response. How the heck the voters of his district could have re-elected that SOB so many times is beyond me. I only hope that the Foley scandal's media circus will teach americans to actually expect professional behavior from their representatives in Washington. All this stuff doesn't reflect particularly well on our nations morals does it? I hope also that the Catholic Church takes from this news story above that they need to clean house as much as Congress does.

- "I haven't heard much about the Studds scandal."
Studds and Republican Daniel Crane were both exposed after each had affairs with 17 year old pages. Both men were censured and neither were forced to resign. There were no allegations of predatory behavior as there is here and the man with whom Studds had the affair defends the relationship still today. Studds passed away last Saturday.
Has it been 23 years alrady? I think there were some other scandals in the 50's and a couple of doozies during the Reconstruction years. - Reply to this comment
- You can scratch 1982. Obviously that is prior to 1983 in most timelines.

I don't find your curiosity convincing, but I'll humor you. He slept with a 17-year-old page in 1973. It was discovered in 1983, and he was reelected in 1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992 and 1994. He recently died ... probably of laughter. - Reply to this comment
- So the church pervert first sodomized and traumatized the filth-stirring Foley, after gaining the confidence of the children and their parents.
And Foley in turn passes on his deviant behavior to children of the wider society.
LEARN PEOPLE!
That is the way in which the homosexual deviance comes to be so dominant in western/christian societies compared to non-christian/non-western societies: The churches of child sodomy are mainly responsible for the spread of homosexual deviance in western/christian societies! - Reply to this comment
- This clown is just trying to spin what he did. He is just another nasty rat who tries to use his power to abuse children!
He wants to blame some priest for what he has been doing for years. Nasty Buzzard!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Reply to this comment
- "This just shows again that republicans are willing to lie about anything to stay in control. How about you come back to the real world."
What's truely amazing is that, not only do GOP politicians now lie almost without provocation, the partly faithful is willing to spread false information as fact almost without conscience. They seem to have decided that the GOP must win at all cost, even if it means subverting the very democracy they claim to care so much about? - Reply to this comment
- Monica Lewinsky was the one I was referring to. She was 22 at the time of the affair she had with former president Bill Clinton. RonnieHM: I haven't heard much about the Studds scandal. What year was that? What were the circumstances of the case? I'd bet many of us would like to know more about this story. Thank you :)
