Brooks, Hinton and both Murdoch should have came out with expressions of strong regret and rock solid promises to straighten out the insidious culture and route out the culprits from the phone hacking mess years ago, 2005 when it first came apparent and the two "detectives" went to jail. Now, it just seems a bit too late, a bit too insincere.
These are some disgusting excuses for human beings. This whole thing is the tip of the iceberg as to what this mutant Rupert Murdoch encouraged throughtout his business.
With Hinton saying in his resignation letter that he didn't know about the News of the World phone hacking, Murdoch and his son James could say that the company's top brass didn't know about the practice as well.
