Andrew Cohen: Obama Follows Long Precedent Of Wrongly Immunizing His Predecessors
- there always has been and always will be torture of some kind, somewhere, someplace. to think it can be eliminated somehow is like the belief that prejudice, racism, immorality, alcohol, and so many other things can and have been eliminated. it can't and won't be eliminated here during periods of war. like the saying goes, "no one knows what goes on behind closed doors" or for that matter on the front lines of battle. of course, there will be an official position of No Torture but it will happen here, there, or over there behind that tree. the other option is to take no prisoners, to give no quarter, which is the best option.

"I never saw coercive methods [pay off]...When I was in Iraq, the few times I saw people use harsh methods, it was always counterproductive. The person just hunkered down, they were expecting us to do that, and they just shut up. And then I'd have to send somebody in, build back up rapport, reverse that process, and it would take us longer to get information."

- if the interrogation tactics save one American life than it was worth it.

It didn't. 9/11 happened under Bush's watch and he let it happen.
But do I understand well that you suggest that Bush should have tortured Bin Laden's family
instead of letting them fly away when all other air traffic was grounded ?

- Question for all the self righteous bloggers; How many of you personally knew someone who died in the 9/11 attacks on the WTC, Pentagon and/ or United Airlines Flight 93? If you had maybe your tune would change. These animals deserve whatever happens to them, if the interrogation tactics save one American life than it was worth it.

- Bummer....Pelosi must be on a lithium drip at this point.
It is interesting to note that while the word terrorist has been removed from this Administration's choice of words when referring to a foreign threat...any one who objects to Obama's leadership or of any one in his Administration, up to and including returning veterans, gun owners, and pro-lifers, is to be considered a terroristic threat to their own country.
So if you are outside our borders and hate our guts and plan to kill us simply because we exist on this planet...you are merely misunderstood. If you are a citizen of the United States exercising your Constitutional right of free speech...you need to watch yourself or the Obamabots are likely to pay you a visit in the night. Isn't this the end all of hypocrisy for liberals? When they did it for 8 years it was freedom of speech...now it's a national security threat. - Reply to this comment
- We should not torture to get the information necessary; we should just hold a tea party and say "please" and "thank you" a lot to the extremists that want to kill any Americans regardless of where in the world they are. Let's kill them with kindness and show them that we are the bigger country and maybe, just maybe they will call an end to their Jihad.

- The party I voted for collapsed on the torture issue, and is in the process of doing the same thing on wiretapping. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the escalation of war.

I agree with you, but it's the role of the judicial branch to act. - Reply to this comment
