Comments on: McCain Takes Gitmo Ruling Personally
Why Does GOP Candidate Scorn Supreme Court's Affirmation Of Right Of Habeus Corpus?
- Another sicko just like Bush. McCain served in Vietnam dropping massive bombs on civilian targets. He got shot down and paid the price for the death and destruction he was part of. This is no "hero".
Lets not forget that America dropped more tons of bombs on Vietnam than during the entire World War II. Naplam, cluster bombs, herbicides... two million Vietnamese were killed. Vietnamese who were doing nothing more than fighting for their freedom from Colonial rule as they had been against the French.
Now McSame wants to continue the Bush/Cheney War mongering, fear mongering tradition. He wants to continue to shred the constitution. He wants to continue to enrich the rich.

- I would like to know what these people, including McCain, have against the Constitution? Is the Constititution a thing of scorn that has to be thrown in the garbage less evil win? Or is the Constitution meant to protect the innocent while punishing the guilty? It''s as if these people are saying that the Constitution is such a bad document that it is detrimental to the US. And I think that anyone thinking such a thing doesn''t belong in this country. They should go somewhere else, and if it makes them feel better than take a flag with them, meaningless as it is to them.

- There is much to be terrified of by a McCain victory. There is much to be terrifiied of by an Obama victory.
But why is it so distressing to Americans that the "other" party win...? It''s because they both operate largely outside of the constitution. If they abided by the constitution, there would be nothing to fear from the "other" party winning an election, since the constitution does not give the government power to harm any of us. But harm us they do....
How about just saying no to both of the above and living within the constitution...? Bob Barr ''08 - Reply to this comment

What we don''t know about Mr. Obama is still preferable to what we do know about McSame, that McSame will continue the failed Bush policies.
This for most of us is simply not an option. - Reply to this comment

Predictably similar circumstances, Jognson told a lie about the Tonkin Gulf incident, Bush told lies about 9/11.
Johnson used his false flag event as an excuse to escalate military hostilities in a country that did not attack the US, as did Bush.
The Vietnamese awoke to seeing their people mass murdered by a foreign invading force, as did the Iraqis.
In both cases there was no real military objective, only agitprop, based on lies and false speculation from those that supported the corrupt agenda of the people who caused it.
Both countries, in self defense, captured some of the enemy, and vented their righteous anger.
US soldiers in both cases were nothing more than cannon fodder, pawns in the pursuit of a corrupt agenda to steal money from the US treasury.
Can there be any doubt that the outcome will be the same, sooner or later the US will again be sent home from a hostile land, having failed because there was in reality nothing at which to succeed.
McCain was then a pawn of the very people who sent him to become a POW, and even after all these years, still cannot see it, and now supports the agendas of the very same people. - Reply to this comment

Because either he''s an idiot? People should be allowed to just disappear no charge, no jury, subject to torture for years? Sounds like the Soviet Justice system. In fact the neo.cons envy much about the Soviets and include the many of the teachings of Leon Trotsky in their doctrine. - Reply to this comment
- Pappy McOldshrub proves once again that he''ll continue the Criminal and Unconstitutional Policies of the Bush/Cheney Crime Cartel. With 80+% of Americans ready for a 180Degree turn from this course, Pappy''s steering the Ship right back into the Iceberg Field.......Lots of luck with that idea in November, Pappy........LMMFAO......

- Are you people a bunch of idiots? What do you think this country did with German and Japanesse prisoners during WW2? They were put in camps and held until the end of the war. Do you really consider these killers on the same level as American citizens. If you do you are sicker than than I think.
I really hope you get Obama, you will regret that day, do you realize that you or no one else knows anything about this man. What little that is known is bad and you blind fools can''''''''t see it. If all you can come up with on John McCain after so many years in public life is to call him names then you are pathetic.

No, we are not a bunch of idiots. We are people who know the difference between POW''s during WWII and what is going on with prisoners in the Bush adminstration. If you can''t, or won''t, see the difference, then you need to re-read your history, take a look at the Geneva contentions, and re-read the constitution. You also may want to think twice about calling people idiots who want to preserve the foundations and decency of this nation. - Reply to this comment

- Scalia asserted that the decision will have dire consequences. He warned that some detainees will be freed and return to war against America: "The nation will live to regret what the court has done today."
Scalia is wrong. If the freed detainees return to war against America the US Marines and/or US Army soldiers need to kill them not capture them. - Reply to this comment

errr lets look at some other reports there ace.
"An eight-month McClatchy investigation in 11 countries on three continents has found that Akhtiar was one of dozens of men %u2014 and, according to several officials, perhaps hundreds %u2014 whom the U.S. has wrongfully imprisoned in Afghanistan, Cuba and elsewhere on the basis of flimsy or fabricated evidence, old personal scores or bounty payments." these accounts are reputable easily verifiable or researched using google.
The US has always been the country that set the highest standards on war conduct . Bush apologists would even deny US citizens . You boys can live in fear , I believe in our highest standards as do a majority of our congressional veterans on both sides of the aisle and the supreme court . Denying any one imprisoned the basic right of habeus corpus, knowing who your accusers are and the right to question the evidence against you and the right of a government to imprison you in a court of law is so basic it should not even be an issue . This is still the USA irregardless of pushes to the contrary . - Reply to this comment

I think Scalia, and the neocons who think like him, have the equation backwards. The reason that these prisoners are a threat is because America gave them cause. Many of these people were held based on the uncorroborated testimony of people who were given a bounty for "terrorists". If Americans have anyone to blame, it is our leadership and Justice Department for betraying the principles on which the Republic was founded. If we had adhered to the principles of the Geneva Convention and our own Constitution, the outcome might have been much different. If McCain is hoisted on his own petard, he has only himself to blame. - Reply to this comment

- In the interest of full disclosure, I am a former military member who served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I am proud of my military background and proud to be an American. That said, I must admit that I am finding it much more difficult to remain proud of being an American. President Bush has continually trodden on our rights and embarrassed us with ineptitude at every turn. I believe it was Benjamin Franklin who said, "Those who would surrender freedom for security deserve neither." I could not agree more. If my belief in this makes me a "leftist" or a "liberal" so be it. My question for those who don''t believe in the constitution and would like to see it modified to suit their own biases is why aren''t you? I love my country and believe it''s message of freedom should be a beacon of hope for the whole world, and I condemn any who would douse that light. Our actions should prove us better than everyone else, not inferior. Paranoia, anger, hatred, fear and abuse are inferior emotions. Shame on the weak.

- It is somewhat irresponsible to have a headline suggesting that McCain is taking a ridiculous ruling by a bench that has never heard a shot fired in anger personally.
Now Congress must act, and they must do so in a manner in which the Leftist media may not like.
No one is under the illusion that these detainees are there by some freak accident.
Maybe a real POW camp ought to be built in ANWAR Alaska, since it seems it will never be used for oil. Such a location will act as a real deterrent for ambitious, up-and-coming young terrorists.
The cold weather combined with the impossibility of escape may make certain people pause to consider, when compared with the lure of fame and luxuries such as cable television and other ameneties generally reserved for rich celebrities in their own country.
Upon arrival in the great state of Alaska, they will be only thankful for the CBS, ABC, NY Times and other Media, that have nothing but their "Interests" at heart!
Think of this as you pop your champagne cork.
