You can see today something that would probably occur in the US of A if the anti-gun nuts had their way. Look at western Europe and the rebellions by Muslim youth in the streets... breaking into non-Muslim businesses and homes. Please don't think that couldn't happen here ! But, with private gun ownership, that might be a little difficult. Kinda like a militia, but maybe not not as well-regulated as the nuts would like.

After studying the Bill of Rights for 40 plus years I have come to this conclusion. The first part of Article II, "the well regulated militia" is the reason for the second part, "The Right of the People........". The founding fathers knew what a standing army in peacetime was capable of in the hands of an imperious government. The "Fathers" feared the power of government so much they provided a "last resort" clause to our Bill of Rights in the form of Article II. This court ruleing, if in favor of more government restriction, could be the activator of that clause. If so, God help us, because Washington won't!

and again I say

FYI , PEOPLE

The STATE and FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Really don't want to ACKNOWLEDGE

the IX and X Amendments to the CONSTITUTION

you will see VERY little that they will YIELD to the PEOPLE,

it is almost every time to the state or federal government...

yet, the Bureaucrats and Politicians act as if

THEY RULE US (A)...

They always want to say that is a PRIVILEGE

not a RIGHT...etc

PEOPLE do NOT FALL for their FOOLISHNESS..

they are OUR RIGHTS...

as long as you are willing to FIGHT FOR THEM..!

They( they being the gungrabers) are trying to find the perfect law to take away our 2nd amendment right. Everyone knows a gun does not do anything by itself, humans harm/kill humans.

The law they are looking for may be in the way prohabition did not work. The DUI laws are being inforced with a vengence with the backing of mothers against drunk drivers. This, in turn, is prohabition using another form altogether. You may leave your home, drive your spouse to dinner have two beers with dinner and be labeled a criminal the next day after being stoped at a DUI. checkpoint. I am sure the gun grabers can think of something along that line.

By the way, I do not drink alcoholic beverages, but I do support the second amendment, I have a gun for self defence and a carry permit.

As per Mr Cornell, Moreover, at the time, %u201CThe right to keep or use firearms outside the context of the militia %u2026 did not appear on Madison%u2019s comprehensive list of possible amendments.

I would like for Mr. Cornell and Mr. Cohen and all the rest concerned with this issue to obtain a copy of "The Second Amendment Primer" by Les Adams and read it!

On page 110, David Hardy points out: "Madison's initial Bill of Rights proposals have two features which merit comment. First, contrary to some claims that "right of the people" connoted a state rather than an individual right, Madison's plan used "right of the people" to describe freedom of speech, press and other clearly individual rights.

Madison clearly places the right to keep and bear arms alongside our other individual freedoms.

USAwatchman:

See, I knew you were a Jeffersonian-anarchist! :)

If wanting to keep the right to bear arms to protect ourselves from criminals, foreign invaders, and oppressive government agents makes one a kook then we are living in a country that was founded by kooks for kooks.

But, as I've have stated elsewhere, this is the beauty of these United States, if we keep totalitarian gun-confiscation laws a local issue. Those who want everyone in the neighborhood, except their benevolent government officials, disarmed can find somewhere in this country to live, like NYC, SF, or in the District. Others who enjoy their freedom might be hard-pressed but should find somewhere more amiable (even here in the Republic we have our problems but it's the closest I've ever been to perfection). Then the people can all vote in one way that even the most myopic of politicians can see - with their feet. Everybody who wants to be disarmed is and those who don't want to be aren't.

"But people will import firearms into our socialist utopia from outside." Yeah, then build a wall. It worked for East Berlin, right?
