CBS News Looks Inside Futures Trading Beyond Watch Of U.S. Regulators
- I''m starting to see what the scam was really all about... convincing Americans to drill locally, resulting in even bigger profits for domestic oil companies. You''re like "duh," right? I figured Bush & co were content with the big kickback they''re getting from the Saudis DECREASING production right after 9/11, and for years after. Only this month has there been talk of increasing production. i.e., THIS RISE IN PRICE HAS BEEN DUE TO VOLUNTARY SUPPLY DECREASES FAILING TO MEET DEMAND... AND NOT DEMAND OUTSTRIPPING SUPPLY. And now Harken gets its due!!!

- in bush''s quest to reduce taxes (primarily on the wealthy so the can "re-invest") regulation of nearly every industry has gone out the window. rampant capitalism (that bush promotes) will, by nature, cause harm to the masses and benefit the few. there has to be regulation or the people will be subjected to horrendous economic hardships. it is a difficult concept to understand, but capitalism is desingned to make money, at the expense of people, the environment, other nations, and other businesses. there MUST be stringent regulation or we''ll all suffer from the greed of true and rapacious capitalists.

Not when those people who support "business as usual" - i.e., the continuing exploitation of the many for the benefit of the few using such tools as artificially created scarcity and commodity speculation to impose an artificial "tax" that transfers wealth upwards - use fear of diversity to achieve their goal of electing the "business as usual" candidates. - Reply to this comment
- *Re-rail topic*
I found the article to be tantalizing, but not informative. Where is the investigation? Is it that hard for a journalist to do his job?? This is a very important topic and they should have a TEAM of reporters investigating this. If found true, that means some corporate entities are committing economic sabotage here. Isn''t that somewhat more important than what color BARAK OBAMA is??? - Reply to this comment
- Just a few days earlier, Lehman Brothers, a Wall Street investment bank, had said that the current oil price bubble was coming to an end. Michael Waldron, the bank''s chief oil strategist, was quoted in Britain''s Daily Telegraph on April 24 saying, "Oil supply is outpacing demand growth. Inventories have been building since the beginning of the year."
In the US, stockpiles of oil climbed by almost 12 million barrels in April according to the May 7 EIA monthly report on inventory, up by nearly 33 million barrels since January. At the same time, MasterCard''s May 7 US gasoline report showed that gas demand has fallen by 5.8%. And refiners are reducing their refining rates dramatically to adjust to the falling gasoline demand. They are now running at 85% of capacity, down from 89% a year ago, in a season when production is normally 95%. The refiners today are clearly trying to draw down gasoline inventories to bid gasoline prices up. "It''s the economy, stupid," to paraphrase Bill Clinton''s infamous 1992 election quip to daddy Bush. It''s called economic recession. - Reply to this comment

ahhhhh...but it is all interlinked, homespunlady.
Think about it: When you have people who will do anything for money - even to the point of damaging the economies of nations and forcing people to the verge of starvation and beyond - the fight transcends oil. - Reply to this comment

- The racism is all over this board. Most of you don''t even try to hide it. According to you racists, if a black man doesn''t act white, he''s "ghetto" and something to fear.

lollll...exactly.
Although I, too, am a racist - in that I think that the human race deserves to survive, even if ensuring that goal requires destroying those humans who would destroy the future of all of our children in their lust for money. - Reply to this comment
