The problem with huge faceless corporations is they have no real conscious as they never see or interact with the end consumer. Decisions are made on numbers not people. This is why we need regulations on industry. Corporations aren't evil just indifferent. Their motivation is profit and this is not a bad thing but dose need some oversight which is best done by impartial regulator.

I only wear a seat belt because it is the law. They say that they save lives, but in some cases they can also be the cause of your death. Years ago I was in an accident where I rolled my car. I was not wearing my seat belt and that is what saved my life. If I had not been thrown into the back, I would have been crushed.

TRW told them they may not work in a roll over. Examination showed that he had the shoulder harness on. In a roll over that design might not grip the belt, Ford knew this and did nothing. There are millions of these still on the road and should be upgraded.

know people who secure their seat belt but don't actually wear it. in other words, it is always latched and they sit on it. when they see a cop, the pull the top part of the seat belt over them to appear as if they are belted.

My sympathy goes out to the family for their loss. Cars should be made to drive as safely as manufactures can make them. Cars are made to be driven, not wrecked. Everyone wants to go after the one with the deep pockets. Where is the driver of the other car, if he caused the wreck, he is responsible for the death, not Ford.
This is another jury handing out a lottery jackpot; hopping someday they will hit it.
If a wreck happens because a manufacture failed to make a safe part while driving, then they should pay. If the accident happens because of yourself, or someone else it is not their fault.
I have worked in the emergency service for over 30 years and know every time I get in the car, I do not rely on the car to keep me safe, I count on myself.
If the family wants to blame anyone, blame your politicians for not passing driving laws that take bad drivers off the road, and punishes them. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

Didn't Ford learn ANYTHING from their time with Volvo? At least it sounds like he hadn't buckled the belt and was sitting on top of it. I've seen morons do that to keep the alarm bells silent. Good luck with that!

don't pass judgement unless you know yourself if one of your family members were killed i'm sure you would sue also these car dealers need to be held responsable for there products they build and to quit being cheap for the prices you pay these days you look at any new car and you can tell they were built cheap and the company made a fortune on it and our safety has no consideration as for motorcycles there dangerous enough and why were at it lets put seatbelts on school buses they do need them to protect our kids maybe this guy was speeding but were all guilty of that

Let's see, 131M less 30% for the attorneys (39.3M) - gosh, that might just be enough to clear his name.

Give me a break. It won't bring the young man back, these are the examples why we need legal reform. Make the lawyers rich, Brian's family won the lottery, and Brian is dead. This makes a whole bunch of sense.

Spend the money well, hopefully in Brian's memory.

In our sue happy culture, how is any manufacturer supposed to design a product for every possible risk. Just because better seat belts were available doesn't mean that Ford has to use them. The US government doesn't even require them. Motorcycles are far more dangerous than 4 wheel vehicles, yet motorcycles don't have any of the safety equipment other vehicles have. You don't even have to wear a helment in PA. Does that mean that anyone can sue HD over a death? No, of course not. My car only has 2 airbags, but other Honda's came with 10. I guess I should sue Honda for failing to put the other 8 airbags in my car. Brian Cole needs is responsible for his own death. Had he not been speeding, maybe he would have been able to control the vehicle and not have rolled over. From other articles: ?This was a tragic accident and our sympathy goes out to the Cole family for their loss, but it was unfair of them to blame Ford. Brian Cole had been driving over 80 mph when he drifted off road for unknown reasons, suddenly turned his steering wheel 295 degrees, lost control, and caused the vehicle to roll over more than three times."
