If I wrote a book that told people to kill those who don't believe as I do, you would have me locked up? You must be a Muslim!
----
Actually, I'm an atheist.
And I have read Deuteuronomy, which you obviously have not.

Funny though, Deuteuronomy is an interesting text...what do you think that it says? - Reply to this comment
- But with such officials as Gen. David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Gainesville Mayor Craig Lowe opposing Jones' protest, does the government have the power to stop him?
*****************************
The only conceivable argument the government could have to stop him would be the "Yelling fire in a theater" arugment. You can not cause physical harm to others with speech and hide behind the first amendment. Frankly, I think that is a stretch in this case. This ability to express displeasure without retribution from the government is one of the lynch pins of our society and what makes it work. He could burn Bibles, Torahs, or flags. That he is commiting a socially deplorable act doesn't make it illegal. Just sad that we have such idiots in our country, but I guess it gave him his 15 minutes of fame, so he got what he wanted. - Reply to this comment
- Some radical Christians, such as Terry Jones, want to use this planned Quran burning to draw attention from the world. They are no different from Islamic fundamentalists and radical Muslims, such as Taliban and al Qaeda. They all want to make this war look like a religious war.

- This is just stupid
Example:
Obama's actions incite people to want to be violent at times...does this mean what he does or says is unconstitutional? - Reply to this comment
- Of course it is legal. Despicable, particularly by a clergyman, but not surprising.

- Priest, pastors, ministers and rabbi are people who feel they have a mission. That mission is to direct the lives and souls of people. Without that mission, they have little reason for being. Sure they sometimes keep another job but their central reason for being is directing peoples lives, spiritually. Why else do they use the title?
The problem the reverend Jones faces is that he has a small congregation and they look up to him. He's committed to doing something stupid, though it seemed like a good idea at the time, that being - the incineration of Korans. He's painted himself in a corner. He doesn't have the option of a priest, namely, going to another parish. He's stuck after shooting off his mouth and making a public scene that went international!
It will be interesting to see if he and his congregation are really as stupid as they seem. But he's in good company. Many in this country feel that an Islamic facility, of any sort, should not be built near the place where the Twin Towers once stood.
In truth, neither books nor real estate are sacred unless you ordain them such, and in so doing, people feel justified to defend their sanctity. It's all foolishness. Intelligent people see it for what it is and make a point to steer clear of those frothing at the mouth.
Too bad they have the power to vote. - Reply to this comment
- "Still, Jones insisted he will go ahead as planned outside his small church in Gainesville. "
Of course he will, this dump of a church cult with 50 members for the way to get global media coverage, and on prime-time TV.
"CBS News Chief Legal Correspondent Jan Crawford reports the city's ordnance that requires a permit to burn trash outdoors could conceivably limit burning books outdoors."
Dont need a permit to burn them in a fireplace.
"But that law has to be evenly applied. Otherwise as long as those are his Qurans on his property, the government can't stop him."
Hmm, "his property" but we taxpayers are subsidizing this political krap due to the fact that as a "non profit" they are exempt from paying taxes, IRS< take notice. - Reply to this comment
- Only thing this brings to my mind is Hitler burned books too.

- I wonder how it would go if we had a big bible bonfire in Kansas for the church that disrupts the soldiers funerals?

- As stupid as this pastor is, the PEDOPHILE Muhammads followers reaction to him and his 47 followers prove they are as pathetic as SING WITH RAPTURE.
