- I know Gus Hernandez and his wife. They use this homeless issue to get sympathy, to get some money from those people with good heart. He is a realtor why can't he go back on that job. There are still a lot of people buying houses because house price is down. His wife does not want to work, she lives like a queen and a great bad attitude. If they have money they spend all of it right away. Too many vices, instead spending their money in alcohol and cigar, why don't they just buy food for their kids. Poor children, they're being used by their parents.

- I would point out that the hispanic father is trying. He works at the motel and takes handyman work. He's trying and he looks pretty American to me. I hate the comments suggesting that he should go back to Mexico. Do you think that the news producer wouldn't assure that the two families were Americans. Geesh.

- And yet there are cities in this country that are tearing down houses instead of letting homeless families have a place to live...... How many vacant homes might there be in Salinas California? How many of those vacant homes are being taken care of? How many homeless families are just begging for a chance to have a home and a job? Why can we not allow persons/families without a home, people that until the recession had stable jobs and residences, to live in and take care of these properties while they find a job, and then give them the option to purchase the residence once they are working?
But by the grace of GOD, this story could be about you or me. There has to be a better solution. These kids are our futures. Stop throwning our future out in the street over greed. - Reply to this comment

- Byron pitts throws a pity party and everyone's invited. At the end he offers a hankerchief to the kid and says "YOU are why I carry this". Can it get any more sappy and sticky? He practically gets down and starts bawling WITH the kid.
of COURSE the story shows a WHITE child and his mother getting out of the motel and now has a studio aprtment because she found a job. But NOT the hispanic family (racism anyone?). Gee, could it be because the hispanic family has other children, and the white lady has ONLY her son to support?
