Comments on: Is High-Fructose Corn Syrup Really So Bad?

- Last year I was having SEVERE abdominal problems and pain. I had put on weight that would not come off. After months of tests, I found out I have High Fructose malabsorption. It's in everything! I rarely buy packaged food and read the labels on all products. Unfortunately, it occurs naturally in many fruits and vegetables too. No sugar-free gum (sorbitol, manitol - as bad as the HFCS), no granola bars and most cereals, no candy bars (except Hershey's with almonds :-). Going out to eat is also a challenge. But avoiding what I can has made a difference. Regular refined sugar does not cause the problem for me!

- This story is a thinly disguised advertisement consisting of opinion devoid of fact and contains several glaring errors.
And, I thought the FTC was cracking down on these 'false news' stories. Interesting that this article coincides with a new advertising push by corn syrup companies...
My favorite line "It's corn starch that has been treated to turn it into sugar," Yep, and cyanide is just apple seeds that have been treated (apple seeds do contain a small amount of cyanide)...
Or, maybe the author can clarify this line: "The food police - the ones who told us Chinese food and theatre popcorn were bad". I would like to see a reference describing the 'food police'. And, btw, theater popcorn did previously use a flavoring/colorant that is toxic.
Shocking that this opinion / advertisement is passed off as journalism... - Reply to this comment

I can't speak to theatre popcorn, but I no longer eat at Chinese restaurants because they saturate their food with MSG. - Reply to this comment
- For you idiots that didn't read the story:
It's sugar. That's it. So, get a life. - Reply to this comment

- The coverversy is not hype. For years doctors treated my severe Irritable Bowel Syndrome with drugs to mask the gastric symptoms. My current doctor told me right away, "it's something you're eating, eliminate HFCS". Well, lo and behold I eliminatated high fructose corn syrup from my diet completely and the IBS is gone, totally gone. Anyone with digestive problems should give it a try, read EVERY label, eat only real food. So many illnesses are related to processed food allergies. Bless my doctor who is an m.d. with a focus on holistic medicine. It's true we are what we eat and our culture is killing itself with the convenient, fast, highly processed foods. I now eat a completed unprocessed, organic diet and have never been in better health. ALSO....the comparison in this news piece compared HFCS to regular sugar which is bad for you too...it's processed white sugar; a big problem in itself. Lizzie

- I dare Coca Cola and Pepsi to make a line of their drinks without High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFC) and see what happens. I can tell you what will happen. Nobody will buy their HFC products.
In Europe Coca Cola and Pepsi products don't contain HFC. The drinks taste better and have a better consistency. - Reply to this comment

- I think CBS is in the pocket of Big Pharma and the food industry. High Fructose Corn Syrup is leading the way to the diabetes epidemic in America.
There is no other conclusion that can be made. posted by baileyccc - Reply to this comment
