This is yet one more piece of evidence that our nations morals are vanishing before our eyes. I would never allow a woman to be in harms way when i could be instead.

So....Now 18 year old girls will be forced to sign up with selective service since combat was their only savior.

It appears that they already changed the picture but the one that supposedly shows Halfaker talking to Rivers is incorrect. The one on the right that is supposed to be Rivers is actually someone with the last name Rose as it says so on her name tag.

I know ammo weighs a lot, but I must wonder about some of the strength tests - and don't ask me for specifics as I don't know. Reason being, up till now only males were in these combat positions. They designed the gear etc. they needed to be able to carry, for themselves and what they could do. If for some bizarre reason only women had been in these combat positions, they would have designed their gear and however it's distributed, for what the average female in combat could handle. If you are fighting for your country, you're going to figure out how to do it with the strength you have or can develop with serious weight-training. If women will be allowed in these combat positions, maybe the military should bring them in to try to lighten the loads for everybody in battle. Wars are won by killing enemies and destroying their resources, not by showing off how heavy a load you can schlep on your back.

It's called equality. After talking the talk there's nothing wrong with walking the walk.

Its almost perverse that we have to even consider asking the ladies to fight our wars on behalf of the nation. Should make our gentlemen feel inadequate. No man who understands the woman and fights to protect them would even want the ladies to have to do the same. Once men loose the fighting for freedom spirit, no organization of women will be able to regain it. We should not want women fighting for us, we should facilitate their nurturing and peaceful spirit presence in the family as parents and leaders so as to influence all of us to think differently about fighting in the first place

As a combat veteran of Vietnam, I'd like to warm women that they are soon to learn that combat is a vastly over rated experience. No sane person volunteers for such duty. May God watch over you.

Now I know for certain our country is going down the drain. Having actually served in combat in Iraq '05 - '06 (which I'm sure none of you have), I can say I wouldn't be comfortable fighting with women in combat. No offense intended, but I'm 6'3'' and weigh 215 pounds. With gear on, I weigh over 300 pounds. I don't know one woman that could drag my butt out of fire if I got hit. If they didn't lower the standards for combat units, then I wouldn't mind if a woman made it through using the same standards as men. This won't happen however and the military will have to lower standards to make this work.

Women already aren't held to the same physical standards as men.

Combat is a tough way to go for anyone..man or woman. Why anyone would want to be in a combat unit difficult to understand. As a combat Vietnam Vet, I say, one must be careful what they wish for--they just might get it.
