- We are headed for a mass extinction, with lots of habitats losing lots of species. Already, millions of acres of pines have been wiped out, due to a shift in range of pine bark beetles, due to warming. Pines won't go extinct, but lots of other species will.
The best solution is to put a slowly increasing consumer-friendly fee on fossil fuels. Give all of the money back to the people, on an equal per-capita basis. Prices will go up, but only the biggest consumers will pay more. Non-fossil energy will become competitive, and the market will pick the winners. Currently, fossil fuels have an inappropriate advantage, because they don't pay their real costs. - Reply to this comment

- 50% Of all weather related deaths are due to cold weather.
27% are due to heat.
So, if we get warmer we will have more heat related deaths and fewer cold related. The problem is that a few degrees of temperature rise may significantly decrease the cold deaths without affecting the heat deaths much. When it is not you can slow down and cool off, wait until night. When its cold you eventually run out of energy and can no longer keep warm. - Reply to this comment
