Mr. Akins' erroneous statement about "legitimate" rape is offensive not only to women but to men as well. There is nothing legitimate about this brutal crime. Mr. Akins should remove himself from this political race immediately. He is unworthy to be trusted in any capacity of governmental responsibility. (Miss) Carol Raphael BROSNAN

Wow, I mean really, WOW!!!! I have always thought of myself as a female moderate who can see the positive of both sides of the argument, who believes in equality amongst all people, who believes that everyone should have the ability to be as successful as they can possibly be through hard work and perseverance. And I have always believed in equality, but with this so called man showing his fear, because yes, that is what it is, fear that he will become insignificant, I am now a full on feminist. I mean WOW!!! People take this crazy person seriously! Really!? REPUBLICANS take this man seriously and are defending him!!!!???? It is absolutely no wonder why republicans should be concerned about how women vote this coming election. yes, I'm concerned about the economy no doubt. I mean I have serious concerns that I pay over double what someone like Romney pays in any give year, but even if that weren't the case, I have a daughter to think of and there is no way I'm leaving her well being in the hands of these "scared to lose the majority, white, male, straight republicans."

As a middle-of-the-road independent who has voted Republican more often than not I can't sit still and remain quiet. When the face of the Republican Party devolves into boneheads like Todd Akin I fear for the future of our country. If this country is going to survive it will necessitate blocking the election of individuals who have so little respect for women. I have to conclude that the attitude of today's Republican Party is to treat women as second class citizens. As the father of two daughters I can not in good conscience vote for any Republican today. Watching the Republican debates I tried in vain to find at least one candidate who could earn my trust. I kept hearing refrains of "Clown to the left of me, jokers to the right" running through my head. The Republicans I respected in years past are part of history. No one in the present party has earned my respect - or my vote.

Things haven't been rosy the past three years but considering the economic quagmire the President inherited from George Bush and Dick Cheney, he's made significant progress digging us out the hole. I can't speak for the rest of the country but Signs of recovery are evident in New england.

In 66 years I have treasured my independence and have never contributed to a political party - until tonight. I am now supporting the reelection of President Obama.

Akin said,
"From what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let's assume that maybe that didn't work or something. I think there should be some punishment. But the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child."

Note that he essentially said the rapist should be punished IF the victim gets pregnant.

birthers scorn women, and their rights. Who gave them that authority?

I also want to know who the "physicians" were that told this birther elected idiot the biology of the female body.

Let's hear his sources.

'if "(the) statement will prevent him from effectively representing our party in this critical election." '

But, that statement pretty much represents your party, doesn't it?

The craziest thing this morning - Fox News' website made NO MENTION of this weekend's damming story. Yes, we had anti-Obama headliner stuff, and a black-man-description of the murder of a beautiful blonde white college coed. Typical Fox slanted news. But NO MENTION of this insulting interview nor either the fact that Akin and Paul Ryan wrote the first bill criminalizing all abortions except those by FORCIBLE RAPE and the "physical" requirements of the health of a woman. WHAT IS A FORCIBLE rape? How do you prove it? How long does it take to prove a FORCIBLE rape?

This is the guy who wants to make laws about who can have an abortion or not. An abortion is between a woman and her doctor. That's it. IF you don't like that. TOUGH. Mind your own business.
