These conflicting reports are examples of how unreliable eyewitness testimony is, and why memory experts keep trying to get our courts to understand that fact. Still, it is used as the most important evidence in most cases.

toxic psychosis by chemicals, fructose, and orange juice ( possible
sources of methanol, which becomes formaldehyde inside brain cells )
in James Egan Holmes' nightly Mountain Dew bottles (PepsiCo): Rich Murray 2012.07.22
rmforall.blogspot.com/2012/07/toxic-psychosis-by-chemicals-fructose.html

Prof. Woodrow C. Monte, Food Science and Nutrition, Arizona State
University, retired 2004, gives paradigm for methanol from many
sources being made quickly into formaldehyde, in humans only, inside
brain cells and retina and 17 other specific tissues via ADH1 enzyme,
causing 19 novel modern "diseases of civilization", from Alzheimer's
and multiple sclerosis, to heart and lung, to diabetes and arthritis,
to many cancers, to autism, Asperger's, spina bifida, and other birth
defects -- backed up by free online archive of 745 full text medical
research references, to aid fast peer review by experts worldwide.

I realized that Holmes is indeed a tragic case of toxic psychosis from multiple chemical insults, probably also Asperger's, as a birth defect from his mom's possible exposure to wood and cigarette smoke, fruits juices vegetables preserved wet in cans jars plastic bottles, some liquors, some coffees, and aspartame -- all methanol sources, that become formaldehyde within brain and retina cells, making slowly evolving complex micro lesions that can affect all aspects of brain function -- add to that little exercise, stress, junk foods, caffeine, chemical additives, street drugs, medicines, alcohol, excess sugar and
salt, loneliness, lack of training in being normal, no massage, no pets, no affection, no play, mercury dental fillings, indoor toxic air, toxic molds, animal body foods, indoor toxic gas leaks, excessive use of modern media (constant dramatization of violence via sensory overload in receptive trance) -- we have the usual smorgasbord of insults to body and mind -- The other prisoners say he is raving crazy, spitting everywhere constantly -- probably primitive detoxing -- actually be good if he vomits, has little hunger, drinks a lot of water, has diarrhea, sweats a lot -- as he is cut off from his usual toxins in solitary confinement, he is likely to recover enough to be profoundly ashamed of his actions, and even to start to guess that he is a victim of neurotoxicity --

he should be treated with positive compassion and encouraged to describe his experiences constantly into a recorder -- a complete medical research evaluation is essential -- MRI of whole body, X-rays, sonograms, EKG, all fluids saved and tested, thorough allergy workup, weight, BP, ECG, lung function, brain functions, retina scans, skin survey, hair analysis, dental survey --

put on safe allergy elimination simple organic vegan diet with distilled water, little salt, low protein and low fat ( Dr. John McDougall drmcdougall.com ), no medicines or chemicals, with standard simple vitamins and minerals, exercise, water therapy, yoga, meditation, counselling, pleasant music, positive social interaction -- soon as he can be trusted, allowed to research own case via Internet -- very important to reduce guilt and shame and fear that could cause suicide -- study whole family for dietary and genetic factors -- chemical exposures in training in neuroscience? -- chemicals from his arsenal? -- hyperbaric oxygen therapy for brain damage -- no methanol sources -- sunlight -- massage -- hot tub, sauna -- gentle running -- shave off dyed red hair -- examine his face photos to see changes over the years -- any concussions? -- general anesthesia? -- toxic hair dyes? -- prior medications? -- street drugs? -- test coffee and Mountain Dew for methanol -- by the way, do same for similar case of mass shooter in Norway --

with evidence and reason, informed compassion can treat toxic psychosis and prevent mass murder...

A whole lot of speculation in news & comments everywhere trying to connect the dots in order to answer the impossible questions of why. Frankly, we all should hope & pray whatever unraveled in this young man doesn't happen to anyone we're related to or know personally or we, too, will get peppered with news media crawling all over their life & anyone associated with them.

Notice how quickly the news moved on from Loughner in Tucson after the psych exam results were reported? The same will happen to Holmes thankfully.

His motive? Easy! He failed the oral exam, snapped and decided to take his frustrations out on innocent people. This is the direct result of "everybody gets a trophy", purple marker instead of red for grading papers, not correcting spelling mistakes and inflating grades. When everybody gets a trophy as a child, everybody loses as an adult.

Death is too easy. It's a cop out. Let him suffer in prison for the rest of his life; that's a long time when you're only 24. I agree with squeegeeboy29: stop showing his photo; we know what he looks like; we need to focus on the victims. We're feeding the fire of his ego by focusing on him.

This guy is to be pitied, not hated.
I do wish that every time something like this happens the media did not make a spectacle out of it. There are a lot of people on the edge out there and the do not need to see this as an opportunity to go out with notoriety.
To anyone who is contemplating doing this sort if thing, don't do it! There is help available and you can have a better life. Go get help. There is hope!
