Where is the hospitals culpability in this bill??? That's what I want to know! It seems to get eternally lost in the debate about healthcare that these should be benevolent non-profit institutions. By their own ethic it is their duty! Take your bill(hospital) and shove it where the up your arse! Don't give these bastards a dime to treat these poor people! You make more than enough G'damned money!

We know that this couple won't be able to pay the medical bills and that the hospital will provide them anyway. How to pay for them is more tricky. If he is disabled and unable to work permanently as a result of this then, yes, he can apply for Social Security Disability and Medicare/Medicaid but as pointed out, that is a long process taking at least around two years without insurance or income. In the meantime if you own property a lien may be put on it and if you return to work your wages may be garnished. I would say the only options are to sue the alleged shooter for damages, which again will take years. Also, other than the grant money he spent on arming himself, it is unlikely he has anything of value to collect from. So perhaps if you have to, this is the one time in your life you do the one thing you hate, you file for bankruptcy and start over. This is one time where there is no fault or shame in doing that. The parents of the shooter are not legally responsible for him because he is of legal age and responsible for his own actions. And yes, this situation underlines our need for the Affordable Care Act that thankfully we are now implementing. Our prayers go out to all the victims.

Surely some of the profits this movie will make, can help take care of these medical bills? C'mon, Hollywood, put your money where your mouth is!!

Someone tell me how Obamacare would help this poor young couple? Unless you mean the TAX they would receive via the IRS...?

As for the Anti-NRA nuts, all I can say is too bad there wasn't an NRA member in the audience that day. Anyone who thinks gun controls would stop things like this are the same ones who thinks the war on drugs hinders drug consumption or availability.

I just can't understand how some can be so stupid or naive.

Every hospital has funds set aside for just this type of scenario. All they have to do is contact the hospital billing department and they will work with the family. No not all the funds come from taxpayers. The funds come from many different factions. I had a heart attack last year and while I had insurance it only covered one/tenth of my bill. I worked with the hospital and all of the charges after insurance were covered by those funds I spoke of. I work in the health industry, those of you who think all the assistance money comes from taxpayers are misinformed.

Why not just sue the organization responsible for the ability given to such persons for this attrocity.

The N.R.A.

That money grabbing organization is responsible for tens of thousands of gun related deaths.

Note, I did not say all gun related deaths.

Why has no one, thus far, brought up the PATIENT PROTECTION
AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT? I don't mean to politicize this tragedy but this is a perfect example of why we need this law.

So does anyone want to tell us about the great GOP alternative if they repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act?

The political regime should pay the medical bills of all those injured. They are the ones who are supposed to prevent such things. Although it is their policies that cause such events.

Increasingly, politics and politicians control the lives and property of all. Removing from them the responsibility for taking actions that might make their life better, and instead substituting their own wishes. In the form of laws that all must follows. This make individual increasingly less competent at discharging the obligations and duties of individual thinking life.

Politics has never solved one of our societal problems. Rather, they become ever-more endemic and intractable. As we march toward non-viability as a specie.
