I'm extremely worried now. If you didn't notice the control freaks such as Bloomberg kept their hidden agenda for the Nanny state take over of our democracy out of public eye for the longest time while they wasted tax payer's money developing it. And now all of a sudden they go public with it - and try to convince us its for our own good. Why now? Could it be that doing so before would've completely torpedoed the ObamaCare case that was before the Supreme Court. If you don't recall the Supreme Court already had deliberations on the constitutionality of many aspects of this and they had already internally formed their opinion and ruling on this but said they would not provide their final report on this case to the public until the 1st week in July.. Now all of sudden 1 month before this is supposed to go public the control freaks are starting to come out in mass and are cheer-leading for the Nanny state takeover of our rights in liberties all in the name of the public good. Could it be that Bloomberg already knows something? If anybody would now it would be him and the elected officials in DC. I'm extremely worried now... Its starting to look like we are all going to have to move to China if we are ever going to have chocolate, ice cream, or soda pop again.

Mayor Bloomberg has good intentions regarding the fight against obesity; however his target on only sodas and sugary beverages is illogical. It should be up to the individual to make healthy choices because they are motivated and ready for a lifestyle change, not a government mandate. Bloomberg's proposal allows for me to buy a 20 oz vanilla milkshake with about 630 calories, 15 g fat (11 g saturated fat), and 65 mg cholesterol but I won't be able to buy a 20 oz cola that has about 240 calories and no fat or cholesterol? As a Registered Dietitian, I teach my clients including those from the food and beverage industry like Coca Cola, the importance of a balanced diet. Success happens when a person is well educated and can create their own balance on a daily basis.

Well, it seems to me that all of those Health Education Classes in elementary and secondary PUBLIC SCHOOLS have been a failure. I'm sure that its easier for a child to get a condom at a New York School, than a tooth brush.
So if government run forced Health Classes haven't worked, then why would a Government ban on soft drink sizes work?
Blumberg is just pushing for a reason to put higher taxes on consumers, so that he can hire more bureaucrats, but what he really
needs to do is cut taxes.

TimeToInvolve

You cannot have freedom without also personal responsibility and accountability at the same time. They go hand and hand.

Mr Bloomberg recent actions only prove what we have been warning all along.

Bloomberg should just come out and say that our predatory capitalist system has privatized profits and socialized losses (like the billions the taxpayers pay to care for people made sick and diseased by fast food, soft drinks, tobacco, etc.).

This is Reagan's fake free market wet dream in action. You have to hand it to these right wingers, they pretty much succeeded in the corporate takeover of the world.

The only way this id1ot should be able to keep his job and not be tried for treason would be to apologize profusely for disregarding the constitution and attacking the rights of ordinary citizens. Then afterwards since he's so concerned about public health he needs to put on those Richard Simmons style exercise tights and start his own exercise program that would be aired on TV every morning. He would have to create his own background music and lyrics that would cite each individual line from the US constitution.

"Americans consume 200 to 300 more calories a day than they did 30 years ago, largely due to sugary drinks that contain high fructose corn syrup." --- According to whom?????

NYC residents: help this man, he is unable to help himself. He is a liberal. He knows that he knows everything that you need to do to make your life "better" that you are either too lazy or too stupid to impose upon yourself. Put him into a nice quiet retirement where he can spend his days lamenting how nobody appreciated all the things he tried to do to help them.

he has overstepped his bounds. The US is still a democracy not an authoritarian dictatorship. Government has nor tight telling anyone what they will or won't eat, wear, read etc...The founding fathers never envisioned this intrusive behavior.
