- Lynne Abraham, the former Philadelphia district attorney,"spent five years investigating the Philadelphia archdiocese. She found evidence church officials were involved in a systemic cover-up."
As a Catholic physician who has met many who have been sexually abused by priests, I have great respect for the persevering work that Lynne Abraham has done in search of the truth, despite the many denials and outright lies from the Roman Catholic hierarchy. Thankyou, Lynne Abraham!
In my research, I find that all roads of accountability lead to the Vatican in Rome. The bishops are just following the culture of secrecy and denial of accountability that Pope Benedict XVI seems to expect of them, as he continues policies that have allowed clergy sexual abuse to flourish worldwide.

- and these churches are all telling you sex is evil and has to be controlled.
Maybe if priests didn't have to be celibate they wouldn't attack young boys.
Maybe if birth control wasn't also evil to these pinheads there wouldn't be nearly the demand for abortions.
a good question would be "are politicians bigger hypocrites than clergy?"
Its about time people read for themselves what Jesus had to say in the bible and quit listening to these hypocrites who pretend to speak for him. - Reply to this comment
- Isn't religion great!!! They all preach against sin & doing good & put great club penalties against anyone not performing up to their standards!!! Meanwhile they are using, abusing & laughing in your face because right under your nose they are indulging & enjoying all the evil they preach against while robbing your bank account!!!! We can only hope that the "GOD" you have dreamed up will make sure you enjoy the HELL you so deserve. I hope all who have been abused & used will come forward & all the religious cults will be punished for the evil they put upon people. May all you religious nuts suffer & rot in your hell, forever.

- It's the first time in the U.S. that a senior official with the Catholic Church has faced charges in the church's child sexual abuse crisis.

Let's hope it won't be the last.
The pedophile accomplices in this evil cult need to stand for their evil right along side the pedophiles they aid and abet. - Reply to this comment
- Really? His defense is that he was only following orders? Did he ever even question those orders?

- If there REALLY was a god, NO ONE would be raping and molesting children - particularly "men of the cloth".
And anyone that worships such a "god" that permits these atrocities, isn't much better than the rapists themselves. - Reply to this comment
- These men in higher autority have failed their duty to God completely, by refusing to stem the practice of sexual immorality within the church. they're even more guilty than the perpetrators themselves. God Himself will be their ultimate Judge. You can fool human authorities, but you can never fool Almighty God. He'll be specially severe with those who besmeared the holy name of His church and failed to repent duly.

- Let's hope that every person who saw, suspected or suffered clergy sex crimes and cover ups in Philly will find the courage and strength to speak up, call police, expose wrongdoing, protect kids and start healing.

- "This should serve as a warning to everyone across this country that now that this secrecy is being uncovered - not only in Philadelphia but in California and in Washington and in Alaska and everywhere else," Abraham said."
Hopefully the full truth will be exposed so that victims are validated and children will be safer. We can thank the brave victims for not being silent anymore.
and btw.. Yes, Cardinals and Bishops do have to answer to the Pope.. they do not have to answer to each other, but they each have to answer to the Pope.. Canon law..!!

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world's oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims.
SNAP was founded in 1988 and has more than 12,000 members. Despite the word "priest" in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers and increasingly, victims who were assaulted in a wide range of institutional settings like summer camps, athletic programs, Boy Scouts, etc. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org) - Reply to this comment
