- Actually, the earthquakes are causing significant damage such as sinkholes, huge cracks in roads and communication servers to go down.

- Youngstown is in the Appalachian foot hills. There are fault lines in all mountain ranges.

- I think most know that many Quakes, especially in foreign countries were man made to destroy, like in Haiti. The fake religious Fundamentalist of course think otherwise.

- Yeah, right..."Get rid of your waste materials, toxic or otherwise...Find a fault line..." - SHEESH!

- First, clearly, there is a need to explain here that earthquakes, whether natural, or perhaps in this case, potentially man-made, are events that relieve some or all of the accumulated seismic pressure that naturally occur at geologic fault lines.
Next, it's important to explain that for several decades scientist have been working (diligently) investigating various methods of gently relieving some or all accumulated seismic pressures that naturally occur at geologic fault lines. Rather than our being forced by nature to patiently wait for nature to take it's course. In what are almost always potentially catastrophic events.
One of the methods explored has been high pressure fluid injection to lubricate stress points, whereby accumulated pressure can be managed by a series of small events, rather than waiting for "The big one."
So why is this story being spun up as if induced seismicity is negative?
Would anyone prefer that this seismic zone be allowed to continue pressuring up? Then, just sit and wait for "The big one"?
I say we study this phenomenon. And then use whatever data we gather to help spare us some of nature's violent cruelty. - Reply to this comment

- This is nothing new. The Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Colorado had a similar injection well that was shut down in 1966 for triggering a series of earthquakes.

- Notice how CBS manipulates the headline to reflect the position of big oil - the geologist says that the cause is certain, but CBS tones it down to say "may be man-made." Our news is controlled by a few big corporations, and they serve their interests rather than those of the consumer.
